I usually wash mine in a washing machine, I could be wrong but if you wash it with colour safe detergent (without bleach) the first time, it proofs and then it's fine to wash it with normal detergent (I think but like, shit, if you aren't poor, just buy colour safe detergent anyway just to be safe).
But yeah, colour friendly detergent and a gentle cycle (or whatever setting your washing machine has for "delicate items") and you should be fine.
