I don't mind MCs that are pure, ideal heroes, driven to act in the pursuit of what they believe is right, independent of a traumatic past or whatever. In fact I love them, Superman is my favorite superhero for this reason among others.
But you know you're gonna have problems when the way the show decides to demonstrate this quality in its protagonist, is by having the people MC interacts with be complete morons, especially once he starts whipping out rules and regulations on them.
If he develops anything resembling superpowers as a result of the bite I am dropping this show. He already has the super steam powered captive bolt pistol, the fuck does he need to be Spider-Man for?
And it will be extremely painful because I loved everything else about the episode.
Also why the fuck did he cut his wrist if he wanted to leave a blood trail? Jesus christ.

Oh thank god. An episode that isn't another perfunctory introduction with no aspirations other than establishing that some characters exist and what the gimmicks of the setting are. Not that it was handled deftly, mind you, what with people explaining to each other how things always happens and how we all know why they all happen and how common they are, but let's explain them in depth to each other anyway in case there's an invisible audience member who doesn't. And then there's the manic pixie girl, who fits into the show about as well as an elephant does into a teacup.
It's Guilty Crown/Geass's writer, so a little nonsense is to be expected, but I think this probably abused that a bit too much. I have my questions about how humanity has survived this long when apparently the trains are attacked constantly, and their security is so bad that when one is lost, the entire fortress is screwed. I'm also not really sure how strangling yourself makes the magic virus disappear. Oh, and little girls possess the strength to behead them, killing them instantly, but otherwise, you need to shoot them in the heart where they're strongest. Mostly, it's kind of just what you'd expect if you made a show from a Madlibesque combination of feudal Japanese steampunk zombie apocalypse. I don't think you should dig too deeply into anything it does. Lord knows the show doesn't, which helps things keep moving forward. And if I'm focusing on the nonsense of what it did and what it showed, it's because it did and showed things in ways that were not boring or obnoxious, and none of these were demands for it to try to explain them because that would just make things worse.
What's the point in creating a gun strong enough to pierce their chest when cutting their heads off seems just as effective and 100 times easier?
I liked it. I thought it was probably the best show this season so far, anyway.

Also remains to be seen if the one that got decapitated at the end is really dead. Just a guess, maybe it's some kind of parasite that lives in and reinforces the chest cavity, but if the host brain is alive it can't take control of the body.

The virus is actually a parasite. It infects the host them promptly changes their body into a hospitable one. It moves to the heart and then encases the heart in strong tissue as to protect itself.
When Ikoma choked himself out and, the parasite couldn't spread as quickly, and quickly died.

It takes about 4 minutes for tissue to actually be deprived of oxygen though. He probably was about to pass out, however, and if it didn't perceive a viable brain to use because it didn't seem in good working order, then it didn't take hold.
Still though if it had taken hold in his body it shouldn't just instantly dissipate if it didn't get to the brain yet, you would think it would just wait there until he stopped choking. It could be something else, like he choked himself merely to try to halt its progress, same reason he put the armor on, and either the stone or his willpower repelled it (willpower would be a real asspull though).
Guess we'll see what is said about it in ep2.

He's saying a show needs more than art to be good.
It does look astoundingly good, but if the show itself isn't then that makes it all the worse actually because then it's a tragic waste of effort.
Couple things pointed out ad nauseum aside, I do think it's got potential, but it's also got potential to fall into all the shonen cliches and the AoT-wannabe shadow everyone is watching for.
