I thought it was an appropriate ending to his arc. It loses all impact when characters who seemingly had a closure to their stories just show up again a couple of arcs later as if nothing happened.

It almost seems like Nisio wanted to close things out for certain characters at some points, but that he changes his mind when he realizes how beloved they are by fans and how he wants to keep on making Monogatari as long as he can.
Well, there's always the theory the Kaiki was lying about the incident.
Maybe Nisio will play off of that. If not it's kinda disappointing.
