Man, people are surprisingly ass blasted about Blue Pegasus and Sabertooth getting their shit kicked in. It shouldn't be that surprising to people. Blue Pegasus has always been something of a joke, and Sabertooth were confirmed as jobbers back in the GMG arc. Their top members were also confirmed to be well below Fairy Tail's top members.
Meanwhile the Spriggans are made to be challenges for even Fairy Tail's top members, and when we last checked in on how things were going in the north, Sabertooth fodder were getting slaughtered by the one Spriggan that had been revealed up there. Given that Blue Pegasus and Sabertooth were up against an army supported by three guys who they had no counter for, the only surprising thing is that when we cut back to them, Mashima's done the logical thing and had them lose.

It's more so as most of these characters were at no point ever developed much and is better much clear here they exist to make Fairy Tail look good. The Tenroujima Island arc had absolutely no tension as the tree, even though it was dead, still had enough magic to prevent anyone with the FT emblem from dying.
Every time there was a near death situation with one of the characters you knew they wouldn't die because of the tree. Even Acnologia had no tension as the only way he could have killed them is if he grabbed them and flew them far away to kill them.
