No. Skip it and watch Rinne instead.

Can someone explain why it's bad?

Yes, skip the filler.

Honestly, it went on too long and lost its steam, and by the time it was over I didn't give a damn about any character in it.

well I watched tsubasa, can't be a worse time waster than that.

It was the first anime I ever watched, so I'm biased. I think it's a great anime. Too much filler maybe, but still great.

Pretty much this. I also remember the finale having absolutely no closure of any kind.

I think it was finished later, like 10 years later.

It's a pretty nice and raw fantasy-adventure that still has an old-school feel to it, as well as a Japanese schoolgirl, if you don't mind some Noragami-like drama

You should be able to find which episodes to skip pretty easily
>>
Might be worth if if you skip all filler episodes.

Watch Inuyasha, skip the filler in that

Then watch Inuyasha: The final act for the ending.

Yeah I remember going back and finishing it after about 8 years. The ending was predictable, but good.

Say what you want but if they made an Inu-Yasha Kai and condensed it down to 24 episodes it would be pretty good. The manga needs a Kai as well.
>>
About a third of the ~200 episodes are filler, with about a fifth of those being decent or, if they're based on Sesshomoru's group, better. The Koga episodes suck and the Band of Seven is a worthless arc.

Forgot something
>WIND TUNNEL
>OH FUCK BEES
>>
>>139567277
Fucking no it is not
It is not worth watching at 2x, not even at 4x speed. It is a low budget episodic shoujo/shonen piece of shit that is mostly repetitive filler with the worst sort of power creep with character development that crawls as slowly as a quad amputee up a hill. And it is over 100 episodes of that. The girls are cute, I guess, but then again what anime girl isn't?

If you want to watch it because you never saw all of it when you were younger or out of some childhood nostalgia, it is quite possibly the worst anime that ever aired on Toonami for the longest period of time. I went it into it with a nostalgia boner that was castrated by the 80 episode mark.
Nice OPs and EDs though.
>>
>>139573464
what shonen you suggest instead?
>>
>>139567277
It depends. Watch for Kagome-fapping. The beginning is wonderful characters and japanese folklore combined. Excellent OST and I MEAN IT. Inuyasha has GOAT OST. However shit starts going downhill shortly after Naraku is revealed. It becomes utter shit later and ends terribly.

I've read more Inuyasha fanfic than the official manga just to put away all the sex tension. Go ahead, OP. It's a classic. Like Yu Yu Hakusho it starts great and goes to shit later. It is my favorite manga just because I was 12 when first reading it and watching the anime.

Literally the best thing to occur in Inuyasha. Opinion discarded. Fuck you, faggot. All the Kotsus were satisfying, even the frog one. Not to mention best boy.
>>
>>139573625

We have the exact same opinion. Naraku's introduction was right around where everything fucks itself. It was intriguing and mysterious with an excellent atmosphere prior to that. The first clash Inuyasha has with Sesshoumaru was excellent. I rewatched a good deal of the show about 3 years ago so I can say it's not just nostalgia speaking.
>>
>>139574432
Have you watched all of it?
I don't want to watch nearly all of the episodes just because of nostalgia, which arcs are actually worth it?
>>
>>139567327
Of all anime, why is Inyasha so strongly associated with this exact demographic? Is is due to being the most fujyoshi appealing series with relatively high mainstream exposure?
>>
>>139574566

Only the beginning is worth it, to be honest. I watched about 90 episodes, so I didn't get through all of it before I got distracted and stopped. I don't remember anything being good except maybe some of the development Sesshoumaru had with Rin, and the episodes where Inuyasha would go to modern Tokyo because those were fucking hilarious.
>>
>>139574432
On some level, I kind of respect that she had a single "big bad" throughout the entire show and it turned out not to be Naraku.
>>
>>139574645

Maybe I could shed some light on this. Inuyasha became popular around the beginning of the anime boom in the early 2000s... to many, it was the first "serious" anime they were exposed to, and that included proto-fujos and weebs. Inuyasha was a case of being in the right place at the right time. It had a dramatic teenage relationship that hinged on unpredictability and three-way romance, just as soap operas commonly do, and a diverse cast of pretty male characters to rope in female interest. Especially Sesshoumaru, bitches fucking LOVED him.
>>
>>139574645
The main character of Inuyasha is a modern female high school student who has the titular character's balls on a vice. Kagome and Sango are the only to female characters who have their love interests whipped.
>>
there's a change in directors after episode 44

You're correct on that. I've not seen anything that actually approaches SM in its totality. It feels weird watching it as a kid and being disappointed that I couldn't follow the plot or see if it really went anywhere while otherwise being subjected to random filler, only to come back as an adult and realize that it's somehow exactly as awesome as I'd always hoped it was, based on the limited glimpses of its great parts that I had at the time.
>>
>>139574892
I remember the height of Inuyasha's popularity, it was crazy. Especially the Kagome vs. Kikyo arguments. And yeah Sesshomaru had a shitton of fangirls.
>>
>>139575484
>>139574892
I made my first and only internet friend because I really liked her Inuyasha fanfiction. She was a landwhale but not annoying (to my 13 year old self at least). Bonus, she introduced me to her friend and I eventually got nudes from her. I wish I knew what I did with those, though I guess it would technically be CP for me now.
>>
No, but I enjoyed it anyway. Pacing issues are severe but the story's enjoyable.
>>
>>139575671

This is actually something interesting to consider... if you were given nudes of a girl when you were both underage, and the subject is no longer underage, and the picture was gifted to you willingly, would possession still be considered illegal? Would it only be ok to have at the time and you would lawfully need to discard of it later despite the circumstances?
>>
>>139574645
When I was in high school/middle school, the only people I knew of that liked inuyasha were overweight girls obsessed with japan.
>>
>>139568864

>>
>>139575484
I remember that too. "Kinky hoe" is a clay pot bitch, Kagome is slut in a skirt etc. There was also shit loads of Sesshomaru/Kagome fanfiction. Some of it was even more popular than Inuyasha/Kagome fanfiction.

>>139567488
Naraku (main villian) dies and rejenerates so many times at the last second, that everyone (including him) forget why he's even after the fucking jewel near the end.
Seriously, in the last episode of the reboot anime, Kagome literally asks him what the fuck his problem is and what he'd even do with the jewel now, considering he was a kajillion demons rolled into one, the strongest one alive, and nigh-immortal.
And every single time someone gets a powerup, its deemed useless by the next chapter/episode.

>>139575872
Guess it's not surprising when Sesshomaru is so popular and Kagome is the easiest character to self-insert as.
>>
>>139575821
That's exactly my experience and exactly what I was saying in the first place. Inuyasha just seems unusually tied to overweight Japanophile girls who watched it in junior high school, there was no one other then them who openly liked it nor did they seem to be anywhere near as obsessed with anything else.

It just feels unusually exclusive for what it is, especially given the first run of episodes was somewhat half decent, and should have more universal appeal, while the rest is just more pointlessly repetitive.

Sailor Moon is one of the few shows that managed to do crazy amounts of filler right. The only "bad" parts about them was that they always had a crazy monster of the week fight tacked on near the end in traditional sentai/tokusatsu fashion.

Maybe if Inuyasha didn't constantly reset it's main plot and instead had ancient Japanese SoL adventures spreading everything out it would have been looked back upon better.
>>
>>139579571
I love the episode about Midoriko's cave where Inuyasha carries Sango piggyback style because of her injuries.

There's been quite a few Inuyasha threads on /a/ lately. Is it just nostalgia, or do people *want* to like it?

If it's the latter, I can sort of get it. It's got some great concepts, but the execution was terrible. It's a tragedy what a waste of potential this was.

You have no idea how much I begged in hope that the show would somehow get over that and break out of the MotW format at some point. It's just so ridiculously unfitting for what it is and only ever worked in SuperS. But to start off like that and then turn into something else would have been epic as all hell.
>>
>>139571162
I was way more interested in what kind of mischief Kagome's grandpa and brother were getting into than anything else. Even Kagome going back to school and hanging out at mcdonalds was more interesting that another heaping dose of poison insects.
Imagine how excited I was when I actually got into anime and found out that they make entire shows that are just Inuyasha filler episodes.

>or do people *want* to like it?
It's the later for me. Like, I totally get how people would have nostalgia for it, but I never watched it until recently because I saw it as a series for landwhales. It has a rare few qualities that stand out as being legitimately exceptional, things like the EDs and conceptual direction, but otherwise is completely pointless.
>>
>>139580400
Yeah, Inuyasha had a great setting and atmosphere, but the plot sucked for the most part. And it dragged on far too much. Still it's hard not to have nostalgia for something I used to like a lot as a young teen.

I got into the show a little late (2009-2010). I was 12-13 back then, and Kikyo vs. Kagome arguments ran rampant to that day. Originally I was on Kagome's side, but ever since rewatching it a year ago, I like both girls. Especially since Kagome would selflessly help Kikyo even though she thought of her as competition.

Yeah, he wanted to protect her because a small portion of him cared for her. Rin constantly brought him food when he was injured, even though he tried to scare her away. When he found her dead, he was able to save her with his sword only because he had a slightest bit of sadness over her.

After Rin started following, it eventually led Sesshomoru to reform into the person his father meant him to be: someone who could care for at least a few people (mainly just Jakken, Rin, and Kagura, but that was good enough.)
