For a while I used the vuze video player. Of course it kept fucking up the quality of the video badly. I used Vuze instead I never really had any issues. I know there are better player but I am not that autistic enough to worry about the minor details.

I guess its something that carried over from way back. VLC used to have major problems displaying subtitles with custom placements. It had it's own layout for subtitles and forced them in that place. Which lead to subtitles overlapping if they were supposed to be displayed at the top and bottom of the screen simultaneous.
And I don't think there was an easy way to fix that. But it wasn't that big of a deal for a lot of people because hard coded subs were way more common back then and they obviously had no problem.
That's why mostly people who watch a lot of anime started to dislike VLC while the majority of people loved it.

mpv is the best, but editing a config file can be a bit intimidating for some.
I've done extensive frame by frame tests and the quality distance between Baka MPlayer and MPC-HC is negligible. Baka MPlayer uses slightly less resources, though.

and is simple, but powerfull.

Had to go back to VLC after using MPC HC. It always worked but for some reason it just started freezing my computer when I open certain mkv files, not all of them but most of them.
I tried pretty much everything I could think of but still didn't fix the issue.
I tried mpv but it's lack of an UI is not very friendly to newcomers I would use if I'd know how to force aspect ratios, so I just went back to VLC.

Of course it does. VLC is LITERALLY a network player, that is what its original intended purpose was and its base code is about. It *has* to play even the most broken of shit to work as a good network player. The problem is, it does this all by sacrificing everything else like quality standards. VLC just werks as a video player, it doesn't work as one.
I only use Cyberlink PowerDVD. works well but using the video improver uses alot of cpu resources. But it will actually improve the video and make it look more saturated and rich ON THE FLY. I don't plan on moving to anything else unless I have to.

MPC-HC is literally the same shit as MPV except outdated and in a different wrapper. They both use FFMPEG to provide playback functionality, but MPC-HC jerry-rigs it to route through various Windows systems where MPV uses straight OpenGL. MPV uses a cutting-edge build of FFMPEG whereas MPC-HC uses an old build.
It's also worth noting that MPV has sensible defaults that look good while being able to run on a toaster - you'll lose a little fidelity by not adjusting settings but nothing major (still better than VLC). MPC-HC on the other hand basically requires the user to change settings for good output, which is dumb. Every program should have sensible defaults.

Believe it or not, I still store my anime on iomega zip disks spanned over about 24 + 1 parity PAR2. Then I play it on my Iomega screenplay DX. Ehh... it works well. But I never watch new animes. Personally I think watching anime in HD is pointless because there is nothing to be gained. so I generally just watch my old cartoons up to about 2006 or so.

Baka MPlayer (a fork of mpv) has the exact same quality as MPC-HC right out of the box and requires no tweaking, though you can tweak it if you want to.
