No the anime itself has to be worse. I can't stand Naruto, but I would rather watch a full season then go to Anime-con. The people there are like a perfect mixture of fat yoai fan girls, Kirito wannabes and a high dose of cringe.

It's a law of nature, that no anime can be worse than it's fanbase as every shitshow just generates an even worse fanbase by default.
