How big is your manga collection /a/?
>>
>>139479496

Pretty miniscule in comparison, actually had to move it onto another shelf since I realized things would take up a lot more space. Anyway I recently bought: Goodnight Punpun omnibus one, Planetes omnibus one, Ajin volume 3, Franken Fran omnibus 1-2, Dream Fossil and Nichijou volume 1.

Any chance 20th Century Boys will get released in a perfect edition like Monster?
>>
>>139479496
Those damaged Naruto volumes are hard to look at.
>>
>>139479496
All I have is Biscuit Hammer raws. Books are for nerds.
>>
It's all digital now. I threw all my manga away, they started to yellow.

There was no point.
>>
>>139480665

>There was no point
Seeing art in person compared to how it is presented in digital makes a huge difference.
>>

Physical manga is a waste of space and reading digitally is superior.
Same for books except those make you look smart at least.
>>
Mostly old stuff. I had a fuckton of Doraemon, Shin-chan, Dragonball, the entirety of the original Yu-Gi-Oh, Recca, Break-Age, Nube, Rantaro and some other things.

They all perished.
>>
>>139480665
Assuming you don't live in pigsty, keeping physical manga/books from yellowing requires literally no work.

Also, reading a text on paper >> digital
>>
>>139481169
Yeah no.
Physical is shit.
>>
>>139479496
that bookcase must smell like shit

>>
>>139481169
The only book that benefits from a physical copy is House of Leaves.
Everything else is better on an ereader.
>>
>>139481169
>keeping physical manga/books from yellowing requires literally no work
What can I do? Or what causes it to yellow faster? Asking as a new manga buyer.

I'm 100% serious. Not only is it a waste of space, it requires light to read, you have to hold the pages open, and the picture gets distorted. Don't even get me started on 2 page spreads.
>>
>>139481543
>>139481264
>not enjoying that light touch of physical paper with the tougher cover page
>the neutral colors of a slight apricot paper against the black text
>the appropriate amount of weight that belongs to each book
>how it's just a fucking book as compared to an ereader
>>
>>139481169
I don't know about that. I kept them clean and didn't let em gather dust but they still ended up yellowing.

We're talking about manga I bought in the mid 90s when I was a kid, all those old Jojo and Dragon Ball and tankobons with HxH and shit all started yellowing and it was a pain in the ass to carry around every time I moved places.
>>
>>139481043
>>139481661
>waste of space arguments

Can you people not just donate or sell them?
>>
About five books.

Generally buy my reading material second hand, thus I only get whatever happens to be in stock.
>>
>>139481659
Very nice, original volume spines look much better than localised ones.
>>
>>139481742
I tend to focus on what I'm reading, not the feel and fucking smell of paper. Which is SHIT by the way and worst way to read.

>>139481802
Why get them in the first place? Digital is the superior format.
>>
I'd love to have a collection but shipping costs are fucking atrocious.
>>
>>139479496
Not big by any means.

Having a collection that large just seems like a waste of space and money to me. You can't tell me that these guys will continue reading and enjoying each of those manga volumes for the rest of their lives. I only have a few series because I took the time to read them digitally first and realized that they were good enough to purchase and I will more than likely read them in the future.
>>
>>139482041
Yep, I don't think I ever went back to read manga, except maybe Battle Angel Alita or ecchi stuff, because what's the point?

There is a reason manga in Japan is printed on really cheap paper. You're supposed to throw it away after a couple years or give it away to kids that might be interested.
>>
have you seen the fakku digital releases? the moment Viz, vertical or some other publishers imitate fakku and release the english translated digital manga in high quality most scanlation will probably stop doing their topaz denoise shit, and the digital hoarders will invest in better hard drives and shit
>>
>>139482357

>Manga in Japan costs as much as it does for single issue floppies of American comics

I'm guessing it's because of the translation and shit why we get Jewed so much in terms of price.
Anyone else really like the feel of the paper in Japanese releases compared to English releases of manga?

I buy manga, like how I'll buy a CD/record. It's more just about supporting an artist I like, rather than thinking a physical copy is superior.

I have all the volumes of Watamote, Toradora, and Haganai. Have a few obscure volumes of random stuff, mostly older manga, and I never have it out in the open.

My books don't need batteries
My books don't have horrible shitty DRM
My books don't automatically break if they get wet
My books aren't released in a parade of obscure as fuck formats that are only supported by three e-readers in Iceland
My books don't crash
I don't need to carry my entire library of comic books in my pocket
Navigating an e-reader is awkward
I don't like looking at bright screens for hours at a time
I can easily buy books with cash

Pretty much none of that matters.
Ereader batteries last a couple days reading 10+ hours a day.
Books getting wet is just as bad as ereaders.
DRM doesn't exist. All epub and mobis can be created in any format, even PDFs.
If you think e-ink has a bright screen you've never fucking used an ereader.

Enjoy finishing your book and not having another to read on hand faglord.

I've been in a Spanish comic bookshop before, actually thought they were nonexistent there until I went to Cuenca, which took me by surprise since I've been going to Spain a majority of my life and I've never seen one in any of the cities I go too. Was originally going to get some Spanish comics to help with my learning but nothing really took my fancy, ended up getting some bags and boards instead for my floppies back home.

It's the niche and gekiga shit I'm worried about will go out of print quickly since there isn't a big interest in it I guess.

When I want to turn a page on a book I move my thumb a bit. When I want to skip a few pages or go back a few pages I move my thumbs a bit more. If I want to zoom in or out I move the book close to my head.

Swiping, tapping, etc. is counterintuitive and breaks immersion. Skipping several pages in particular is annoying.

Bigger than your mom's butthole
>>
>>139486045
Just because you're mentally challenged doesn't mean everyone else is.
Tapping the screen is much quicker than flipping pages, and even on the new Voyager you just grip the side and it turns the page.

You zoom in the same way you do a book. Put it closer to your fucking face. Or you can make the font bigger and don't ever have to worry about it.

When electronics get wet you can also try putting them in rice as long as you didn't fucking dip it in water. I've fixed plenty of phones and laptops that way.

How do e-readers handle splash pages? I like being able to quickly flip back with a physical book during action scenes as I always seem to miss something. For me physical is better but it is silly to argue... Can't we just have our preferences and enjoy this manga thread?

As for my collection, I have ~25 English volumes of good series and a few Japanese volumes. I've been meaning to import more. My local libraries have so much manga that I don't purchase much.

I don't get the "It's a waste of space" people.
Do you live in a mexican shacktown or something? Or in the streets? Or abusively occupying someone's cellar/attic without them knowing?

Even otaku living in literally less than 20 square meters have room to nicely display several hundred volumes of shit.
Any normal library is pefectly able to hold more than 100 volumes, and is also going to look pretty nice, full of books in any room, occupying like 40 square centimeters of space, which is less than the chair you're probably sitting on.

What the fuck is "it's a waste of space" even supposed to mean?

Everybody already knows about that, too bad it's a pain in the ass, and the alternatives are still cheaper.

That only works for completed series for which there is an already listed set of books.
It's unviable for anything not popular or that has come out too recently.

Meanwhile, honto allows you to buy anything you like, and spend less anyway.

Let's say I want to buy a set of books and some new manga that have just come out. Amazon won't allow me to buy them without going broke with just shipping.
Meanwhile, ordering them on honto means not only getting to buy whatever I like, but also spending less per item.

Besides, if you want the 'pay by item' formula CDJapan is still better than Amazon anyway.

What? It's super easy. And if you're buying used books(which are mostly in almost perfect condition), it's way cheaper than honto.

It also works for inclompleted series, as long as they have 3+ volumes (obviously, it also depends on the popularity of the series). Older series can get ridiculously cheap, like 17 volumes for 2000 yen.

The only thing that sucks is that you always have to get the whole set. If you bought an ongoing series set before, and want to buy the newly released volumes, it's definitely better to use other sites. Or if you want like one volume of several mangas.
But amazon is fucking amazing for bulk purchases.

And CDJapan is never the better choice for anything book-related.
Actually, they're never a good choice except for CDs. And even for those, they're just the best choice because there's no good alternative.
>>
>>139508570
>And CDJapan is never the better choice for anything book-related.
