Takaaki Suzuki, the military history adviser for Strike Witches (gotta have that plane accuracy) and Girls und Panzer (accurate depiction of tanks) is the guy who came up with this anime.
Usually director and series comp play a huge role in an anime original, but it's nowhere near as big as the concept guy. What he says is law. Unless the director/writer is the one to come up with the concept.
Some people are already labeling this anime as drama genere. I say it's a sinking ship, ditch this garbage and pick up any of the 10 actual SoL anime airing this season, like the Dogakobo one, the Trigger, or the JC Staff one.

It's never sold that well. Outside of surprise hits like K-ON! and Gochuumon, the sales are pretty average. Like, NNB and Kiniro Mosaic S2s had a steep decline from their S1s. This season has a bunch of SoL too, it's not like Haifuri not being one is a big loss.
