If you never watch anything outside your tiny, defined comfort zone, how can you have any actual understanding of appreciation for the medium.
People don't "burn out" on anme because they watch too much, they burn out because they don't watch enough. Not enough diversity in titles, not enough diversity in quality, not enough diversity in age.
If you have time to be asking for what to watch on /a/, you're wasting it. You should be watching anime now insted. I've got an episode playing on my tablet right now in the background as I'm typing this (Kino no Tabi).
You want to know what to watch? Watch ANYTHING. Literally anything. Then think about what you watched; did you like it, did you hate it, what did you enjoy or hate about it. Then use that to find a new series. Follow a director or writer for a few series, pick a character designer and chronicle his development over a series of shows, think about the anime you hate the most and then find one that is the most dimetrically opposed and see what its like.
Quit trying to be an anime fan and go be an anime watcher.

Really? What on earth are you talking about?
How is cultivating your own personal sense of taste and appreciation going to damage the anime world?
Do you people LIKE constant rec threads and spoonfeeding? Do you think everyone needs to be dictated a list of "approved" shows to watch and not view anything outside of that?
There is so much, so MUCH good, enjoyable anime out there from five, ten, twenty years ago that never gets mentioned, never gets watched because people will either watch whatever is coming out now and never go backward, or demand to be given that thin, miniscule handful of so called "masterpiece" shows and never venture outside the most basic appreciation of anime. And, yeah, sometimes you hit a stinker. It happens. You didn't "waste your time" watching it, you cultivated a deeper appreciation for the good shows.YOu don't have to watch every bad show ever made, but if you havn't watched some shows that make you say "Man, that was a stinker. I'm glad there's some good stuff coming up later." then yeah... you're just not watching enough anime.
