Vesperia had a fantastic way of dealing with things. Yuri straight up took justice into his own hands and wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty. He got shit done and bad people died for the greater good. While that kind of happens in Zestiria via Rose, it's not quite the same.
Regardless Eizen isn't a "bad guy" really, he got corrupted but then so did every other Seraph in the game. So you get to see your party member, who has been with you from the start pretty much, crying her eyes out as you proceed to kill him despite promising her otherwise. It just didn't feel like it belonged in the game. I can't recall any other Tales sub-plot off the top of my head that kicks you down like that. I know it's meant to "strengthen" Edna, letting her get over the loss of her brother and all that but I'd have much preferred saving the brother instead.

Sorey as a character, fails as a protagonist. He was too "pure" if you get what I mean. Everyone had to shield him for his own wandering sake that he just feels like a damn puppet and he's fine with it.
Rose even with all the controversy around her, is actually a better damn protagonist than he is. She's much more layered and worldly, but her reasoning for protecting Sorey is kinda shallow.

That being said, no one will be able to fully see if she was going to be a good character or not. But from the initial onset, she actually felt like she could be. Maybe we'll see in the anime.
