The kid that made his entire manga by polling his readers online to ensure he was always appealing to his readers' expectations. The other authors got all uppity about whether or not it was an ethical means of writing his manga. There was also a super awkward return arc later where he came back with a whole company of hired ghost writers. It's a little vague but when you look at the JUMP lineup at the time, there's no one else the profile fits: only Kubo had any kind of reputation for weird twists aligning conveniently with popular fan theory at the time. When I was a kid reading Bleach I used to come up with all sorts of Bankai and Shikai. Some of them by sheer luck turned out to be true and given to some characters (Shunsui and Kensei, that Kenpachi guy from Spirits Are Forever With You).
One thing I had come up with for Kenpachi was that he could multiply his cuts. Like, one cut was equivalent to 100 cuts or something like that. So he could cut his opponent once and then 100 cuts would appear on the opponents body and slice him. I see now this isn't impossible, considering Yachiru's power was basically that. She could multiply her strikes.
Following Isshin's logic, it would be pretty neat to see Zaraki wielding a sword the size of a building now that he is fighting an opponent that size. Fuck, I'm excited. Waiting for this moment for 10 years now.

So Kenpachi has not been in a constant state of shikai like we thought, but rather a constant (weakened because he didn't know it) state of Bankai? Am I understanding that right?
