He actually gets like semi-friends and interacts with people in the manga. There is more uplifting stuff. I think Miura is trying to cast an shadow over midland, to contrast with it usual rosy depictions of it. elements like the cut throat nobility, the Kings Issues and the Tower of Rebirth do the same thing.
An unseen, and often horrific side to thing person or place is a huge theme in Berserk anyways, so it's not really all that inconsistent.

Is it the best? probably not by a long shot, but what you're missing is the journey itself.
I'm not looking for escapism in a sense of wanting the good guy to always win, cute girls doing cute things, or in general anime stereotypes.
I want a story, with all the good/bad/and inbetween that exist.
Is there a lot more bad? Yes, I would expect a story about demonic forces to be somewhat edgy. Is it overly so? Not really, AoT is a lot more edgy than Berserk.

The art of course is mesmerizing since it has the best dark fantasy art, well that kinda also goes to Vagabond, too. I never considered Berserk "edgy". sure it has many dark themes and a ton of violence. But I always thought it was about Guts and the fact despite how terrible his life is. How his best friend betrayed him and murdered all of Gut's friends. How his girlfriend became a walking vegetable. How he must fight every single night to survive against a forever oncoming onslaught of demons. Anyone else in his situation would probably just kill themselves and get over with it. But Guts doesn't, he doesn't let his shitty circumstances or fate depress him. I mean sure he's soldiering on in the name of revenge but he's still moving. So yeah, berserk to me is inspirational if anything.

But that's wrong. Perfection means something that cannot be improved, and literally everything can be improved somehow in some way, and if you can't think of any way to improve it that's just the limitation of your imagination caused by ignorance or whatever.
The score should literally be a representation of how much you liked it the first time you watched it. usually it's scored out of 5 because fewer numbers is less ambiguous; what's the difference between a 6 and a 7? They may as well be the same. You can't use some kind of insane calculus to determine this.

But this is why I think that's silly. Like you said, a score is a measure of how much you enjoyed it, not how it measures up to other manga you've read. You could think that manga was shit and never want to read another manga because of it, and that definitely doesn't deserve a ten. You might as well just make a list/ranking and then have ratings assigned by an algorithm if you're going to do it that way.
