Aren't Studio Wombat guys literally whos who specialize in in-between animation? I mean, if they got Kino right and then studio Shaft made something decent I am willing to bet Kino's source material is just that good so it's kind of hard to mess up.
But yeah, in the end, it's the sales that matter. But it's pretty crazy that during 2003-2007 she apparently was big enough to warrant anime and two video games.

She even won best female character in 2006 and the series came second for best LN that year as well. The series itself still places fairly high up, usually being within the top 20 so it's still fairly big, but it's just that newer LN series have to get the limelight as well.

I suggested both Chaika and Kino to a friend because they're both good but for very different reasons.
Friend made it all the way through Chaika in two sittings. Friend got through Colisseum and stopped.

I powered through Kino's in two sittings (1-2 then 3-13) and was pretty glad I did. Land of Human Dolls has me in tears for about ten minutes, so I guess you could say three sittings.
Then I found out about the OVA/Movies and scrambled to watch that. Everyone has their own pace.
I imagine he'll get through it eventually. Just want another live human to discuss the show with.

I have finished Kino's Journey most recently and wait for memories to dumb down and feels to calm down for LNs. But I don't think a lot would change for anime even if you knew it's coming, because overall presentation (animation, music, colors, voices) is just pleasant.

I'm able to read stories that I've seen animated first and enjoy them just fine, but almost never the other way around. I always try to watch the anime before reading the source material because of that. I'm not really sure why I decided not to do that with Kino.

I watched Kino a few summers ago.I lived in an apartment without air conditioning. It was hot as hell.
I watched Kino in the early evening when it was cool enough to actually do something.
I had a Kino drink. Equal parts vodka, sake, and melon liqueur. It had a beautiful green hue that matched the mood and color of Kino's show. Chill the glass, chill the liquid, put ice in it, get that fucker as cold as you can.
When it's good and cold, drink while watching Kino. Absolutely, perfectly relaxing.
