I didn't even think about symbolism when I watched it, honestly. It's a really cool show if you just accept that sometimes weird and silly things happen. Did you watch the whole thing? If you didn't get to deep into it try watching again but with a more easygoing mindset. Obviously there's metaphor and stuff but it's all built in a non-demanding way, I felt. Or maybe you just don't like shoujo? I admit I have a soft spot for it.

Yeah I can understand that. I liked Yuri Kuma Arashi as well but honestly it was kinda ugly production wise. Like Utena isn't some powerhouse of animation or anything but at least the drawings felt less sloppy to me. YKA's OP is insanely good though, if there's anything I got outta the show, it's that. Do you dislike most symbolism-loaded anime or just some? Utena is an exception for me, I typically can't enjoy most arthouse-y stuff.
