Aki. Carly's character was honestly pretty resolved so it made sense for her to fade into the background. The only bad part about how Carly was handled was related to Jack suddenly thinking girls are smelly despite openly declaring his love for Carly as part of his core character development. Everything else could've been left alone and people probably wouldn't have been bitchy. Just have Jack spending all of Team 5Ds' money on dates or something instead of just coffee. You don't even have to show Carly onscreen.
Aki was pushed to the foreground, made a prominent member of Team 5Ds with promises of usefulness, then shafted so we could have Yusei 1v3 people and Crow sell Blackwings. The worst part is that Crow didn't even get that many duels in Part 2 despite the blatant shilling they wanted to do.

I think the most offensive part of post 5d's is how utterlly useless and non fitting Crow and Rua's dragons were to their decks. What about Black Winged Dragon screams Blackwings? Effect damage? That's stupid as hell, not to mention, it can't be treated as a blackwing monster, nor can blackwings even summon level 8's as often as Odd Numbered monster. They did this shit twice with the manga version of it being just as bad if not worse. Then there's Life Stream Dragon. If your lp is below 4000, the duel is either over or you are in such a position even if you gave your lp back up to 4000 it wouldn't help you.

Because Kotori is Anzu 2.0. Just like the Yuma and Astral are just Yugi 2.0 and Atem 2.0. Black Mist and Vector are both Bakura 2.0 in their own way. Kaito is just Kaiba 2.0, since at least Manjoume and Jack were very different from Kaiba. Shark is basically Jonouchi 2.0, complete with the hospitalised imoutos of Rio and Shizuka respectively.
On that matter, ZEXAL tried so hard to be DM and failed. I personally don't like DM as a series. I like several characters from DM but as a series, its only better than ZEXAL. To me, ZEXAL is like the Pokemon Best Wishes of the YGO series, even to the point of being the worst series in their respective franchise. Especially since their prequels (5Ds and DP respectively) were generally well-received by fans. Then came along XY and ARC-V which made BW and ZEXAL respectively look like complete shit. Even if XY is overrated and people literally only watch it for the shipping (Ash/Serena), even though they should have known by now that Pokemon isn't about shipping. At least Yuya and Yuzu getting together at the end of ARC-V has a tiny chance of happening, even though it never will because obvious reasons.
