On top of that, even if they bought the distribution rights for the already completed dub, WB would likely still ask for a fuck ton of royalties.

Also, I don't think it matters, royalty-wise. The people who deal with the company finances and the actual workers of the company are two different groups of people. Even if the dubbing team did work closely with Viz, Viz's name is nowhere in the credits or on the box. Warner is known for being greedy, so I don't think they'd not ask for lots royalties. Apparently, the only reason JoJo wasn't on Toonami was because WB was asking for an unreasonable amount for the broadcasting rights.
