What exactly does this have to do with Gunbuster? It's the same continuity (though barely related in plot) and they both involve mechs in space, but the style and level of sci-fi realism are completely different. If I didn't know it, I wouldn't have even noticed they were the same franchise.

>>139232724
Well, yeah.

That aside, still a lot. Thematically and plot wise.

It's set 10 years before the end of Gunbuster

Which is 11,900 years after the beginning of Gunbuster. Earth changed a bit.

There's also the fact that it's directed by the guy who did FLCL instead of Anno when it comes down to style
>>
Gunbuster represented its era and diebuster represented its own era

They were made in completely different eras of anime and they simply reflect that.
>>

Gunbuster's nudity was at least an organic part of dialogue scenes, Diebuster's nudity was typical 'lol fanservice' nudity.
>>
>>139232929
Which perfectly reflects the different eras.

fancy coincidence.
I just re-marathoned GB and DB last weekend, thinking about the old days when newfags would be making threads about this very same thing.

The very end of DB will answer all your questions.

All in all, I enjoyed them both maybe even a bit more than a decade ago.

>>139232929
>making such a big deal out of nudity
it was pure fanservice already in 80s, no matter how "bold and natural" it might now seem.

But I assume Anon above was referring to the overall aesthetics, the level and design of tech, etc. GB followed the typical 80's retro-future of its era, with tons of detail put into the mechanical parts etc, all while the every day life of people was shown to be pretty much the same as during 80s in general. DB kinda avoided this by setting the events so far into the future, that anything would go, while the "old" tech would fit fine to the bit less colonized new planets.

It's almost if they just gave some shitty Anime the name diebuster to make it sell better.
>>
>>139232929
There was a handful of it, if that bothers you so much you are missing the big picture.

Diebuster is the perfect sequel. Not only is it an excellent piece of art itself that tells a beautiful tale about Nono and her friends and the desire for people to attain greatness and what it means to be a hero, it is a more than worthy sequel in the Aim for the Top series because it expands upon the story started in Gunbuster in a meaningful way. The fact taht Nono's motivation is revealed to be a desire to be like Noriko, the hero of the predecessor series, is something we fans can relate to perfectly. And even though Nono is an all powerful god machine and Noriko is just a lowly human, its about the willingness to sacrifice taht makes them great heroes. Lal'C truly becomes a hero only after she loses her super powers, after all. The fact that Nono, the most powerful being in the universe, passes along her will to her best friend Lal'C just reinforces taht more.

And dont even get me STARTED on how its finally revealed that the cast of Diebuster ARE the people who lit up the "okaerinasai" lights at the end of Gunbuster, welcoming Noriko and Kazumi home, its the greatest tie in imaginable. Lal'C will meet Noriko and tell her about Gunbuster No. 7, her best friend... its beautiful.

THAT is how Diebuster is related to Gunbuster. Appreciate it, fuccboi.

do you think we'll get Top3! in 2023, on the Gainax's 40th anniversary ?
>>
>>139233400
Gainax will be dead by then.
>>
>>139233400
I hope not, because they ahve done everything they possibly can with the series. Anything now would just be derivative and exploitative.
Also AftT!3 already basically exists, and as your pic implies, its TTGL. And it did the right thing by completley breaknig off into its own thing.
Lets stop reviving dead series to rape them. The fan-wankery comes at too high a cost.

Not that I encourage spoonfeeding but at least tell him to watch everything and not just Casette Girl. HammerHead full series when?

Well they're all independent shorts.
And since we're discussing Daicon, I assumed anon wasn't a newfag so a little spoonfeeding was ok.
And there's a lot of these shorts that deserve a full series, not just HammerHead. Too bad the only popular bit was about tits&music.

>Earth changed a bit.
The thing is that the changes are barely noticeable. There's now civilian space travel, sentient robots (cartoonish ones used for action and comedy, not some kind of major restructuring of society), superpowers (completely arbitrary), the power to move planets out of orbit and some differences in language and culture. For something that's 11k years in the future, the contrast is VERY conservative.

>>139233329
>Nono's motivation is revealed to be a desire to be like Noriko

And that's the whole direct connection. I pretty much think it was only there to for the purposes of >>139233271 (though I don't think it was shitty at all).

>And there's a lot of these shorts that deserve a full series

Well of course, HammerHead was just the first one off the top of my head. A show with the lewdbot would be fun for example. Or Gridman, the one where they create an Ultraman to fight invaders getting inspired by the actual show. Though Active Raid somehow touched on this a bit last season. Well anyway, I could go on but yeah, for some reason HammerHead is the first one that came to me then.
