Man, the last one was a letdown, and it hurts even more because ep11 was so good.
The final boss popping up again out of nowhere was a comicbook cliche, and Haru killing it with Mystic Eyes of Death Perception felt really out of place. The best point in Grimgar was that they don't do shit like this, and you could legitimately worry about the characters.
Same with Shihoru casting Explosion out of nowhere. She even said she needs to learn some offensive spells.
Mary's smile is a miracle. I'm a bit torn about this. Her smile was not supposed to be abused, that's what made it precious in the first place. Mary going full moeblob at the end was a crime.
Direction and quality mistakes everywhere.
If not for the new Mary screenshots, I wish this episode didn't exist.

While the anime improved on a lot on the novel I feel like the dropped the ball on the last part. They didn't properly convey haruhiro's problems with ranta nor his coming to term about him, also ranta's escape and the struggle after reuniting was so fucking bland compared with the novel. What really should have happened is seeing it fail in an earlier confrontation then in the final fight, Haru realizing he needs the party to help him put in the killing blow.

Well, one point in Ranta's defense was that he was apparently shouting out all of his attack names in a fight where Haru would know exactly what they all were. When he was in a serious duel earlier in the LN, he apparently kept his mouth shut and didn't announce his attacks.
In short, Ranta has proven that he knows telling the enemy his attacks will make it easier to counter them, so it sounds to me like Ranta was deliberately telegraphing his moves so Haru would know what was coming.

In short, this situation strikes me as a classic wacky misunderstanding, only with knives and attempted murder. Haru thinks Ranta is a traitor, Ranta found out that Haru was perfectly willing to kill him even after Haru already disabled him, and Merry apparently ignored him the entire time she was held prisoner and therefore wouldn't know what was going through his head.
Ranta will probably be back on the team eventually, but I expect there to be a lot of hard feelings involved.
