The beginning of Dragonball has some fun and "adventure vibe" in it, but it is still underwhelming many times, with predictable fight outcomes and unreasonable power-ups. The Red Ribbon Army Arc is a yawnfeast through and through.
Im reading right now, please no massive spoilers. What i wanted to imply is that i might not even have given Dragonball a chance if it wasnt a well-known classic. Only starting with the Saiyan Arc, the plot and drawing style become engaging.

Sounds like every arc from the Saiyan arc.
non-z dragonball is definitely overrated on this board 2bh
The 21st Budokai and the Red Ribbon Saga are an awkward transition period where Toriyama refused to make Dragon Ball what it was destined to be. It doesn't get good until the 22nd Budokai where he finally realizes that he's actually good at writing fights when he actually tries.
The Saiyan and Freeza arcs are Dragon Ball at its peak.
