I generally base it on whether or not I was enjoying a series before the annoying charter shows up.
Can't say for pic related since I've never watched it.

I make it depend on the characters. The only show I can truly say I disliked was Lamune and that was because I didn't end up liking any of the characters and it was overall boring. I can at least find one character that I like from any series.

I don't think I've ever liked a character but not their series. The opposite plenty of times. Usually series I don't like get dropped extremely fast. Within one or two episodes. That's not enough time to take a liking to a character.
