Whereas a standard Western blade is good in the hands of anybody who is even mildly competent. The katana is objectively inferior to most Western swords. The katana was used because Nippon didn't have very much in the way of hard steel, so it had to make do with very little, which led to not very much armor and blades which were good at cutting down unarmored opponents. Western civilization had no such problem - in fact, they have had an abundance of steel since they figured out how to make steel - so they could make heavy armor, which means they needed heavier weapons, which means the katana is pretty much useless. It'll just break.
