How do you not take a chance on a show OP?
>>
>>139146434
Best gamble ive taken in my life
>>
>>139146434
That's the majority of shows I've ended up liking, really. This season Konosuba and Koukaku no Pandora were like that. Neither show was a mind-blowing masterpiece or anything, but they sounded dumb as fuck beforehand but ended up actually being good seasonal entertainment. Pandora was also kind of dumb as fuck, but fun nonetheless.
>>
>>139146581
he probably means shows that you weren't immediately enamored with, or that don't fall within your usual viewing pattern.

Like when a lot of people who hate moeshit watched Madoka when it was fotm.
>>
>>139146581
It's an idiom that refers to uncertainty - in this case, in whether one will enjoy a show. If something looks like schlock but you try it anyway, you're taking a chance.
>>
>>139146581
If someone who you know to more or less share your taste recommends a show, you can usually trust it to be entertaining. Other than that you're absolutely right, though.
>>
>>139146434
I usually like to try and pick out one romance show every other season or so just to make sure that I'm not only watching the same kinds of thing over and over again, but Akagami is the first one where I have legitimately looked forward to watching every week
It's been a great ride, and what's even better is that the quality has been consistent throughout the entire run. I'm gonna miss this stupid show
So when do Mitsuhide and Kiki fuck?
>>
>>139146434
This show. I wanted to like it, but the MC suffered too much from the "When MC isn't around, everyone should be asking where MC is". She's likable and all, but it seemed like everyone either turned retarded around her or fell in love with her (both in some cases), barring the prince's retainers.

Think I dropped it like 10 episodes in or something.
>>
It's not a gamble, but I still wanna share.

I read Berserk's first two volumes about three or four years ago, but I dismissed it as just an another edgy manga and I dropped it.

..until a few months ago when Guts got off the boat. I (and probably many others) picked it up again, by first watching the movies, and then starting from the first volume again, so I can see the skipped content.

The movies were pleasurable to watch. Yes, the CGI was bad but the great soundtrack makes up for it.

It's a fucking masterpiece that everyone should, but the first volume makes one hell of a bad impression and chases most people away.
>>
>>139147334

I remember jokingly saying a bunch of criteria for an anime and someone mentioned that. I was literally picking the worst things I could think of
Something like

And somehow I stumbled on the description for that almost word for word. God damned that shit was awesome.

Unless it has an exceptional plot I usually skip shows with male main characters. I took a flyer on this show not expected much. Was definitely one of the best shows I had watched that year. Marathoned all the episodes in a single day.

M3?

I just found argevollen to be fairly realistic from a combat perspective and enjoyed that aspect of it.

It's a subjective standard but examples of immediate drops:
Highschool setting
mysterious girl falls from the sky
just a normal highschool boy
wake up in a game
harem

I picked up Boku Dake this season which violates the school trope, but the storytelling (in my opinion) was exceptional that it passed the test. It also started the first episode as an adult life sucks theme.

That anime was brilliant.

Gurren Lagann believe it or not.

Sure it's entry level as all hell but before this I was only a Toonami anime fan. And for someone who was a fan of more sensible and "realistic" mecha like Gundam and Zoids something like Gurren Lagann seemed too ridiculous.

But I was wrong and instantly fell in love with it. It revived my love of anime and got me to finally go outside of my comfort zone.

>normie

>>
Shingeki no Bahamut - I would have written it off immediately as a shitty adaptation of a game but I gave it a shot based off of the promotional image alone. I didn't even bother with a PV.

Jojo's Bizzare Adventure - I don't LOVE it, and I have yet to read any of the manga, but /a/ kicked up such a fuss about it when the first season came out so I gave it a chance and really enjoyed myself.

Shorts (Hackadoll, Kagewani, Turning Girls, Hakone-chan, Ai Tenchi Muyo!, etc.) - I normally ignored shorts for a long time because I didn't think that they had anything to offer. Glad I was wrong. Some shorts are better than a full length episode.

>>139156740
This. I really didn't expect to enjoy it at all and everything about it goes completely against the type of stuff I watch. Would never watch it again, but I did enjoy myself.

>Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
I'm glad I ignored Tenka Seiha and watched this anyway. Sometimes anime bloggers, no matter how experienced they are, are not always right when it comes to making a judgement call. One of the best of the season.

Maybe he thinks it is some kind of slippery slope, where if anons start helping/spoonfeeding others, the board will soon be filled with request threads for almost anything. Because asking will be easier than doing your own homework.
And soon, the boards would be full of anime recommendation threads, and not long after that people from gaia, reddit and [other bogeyman website] would come flooding the board to ask for recommendations.

Or something to that effect.
>>

I was completely fed up with battle shonen, even for dumb fun value, until I gave One Piece a shot on a whim. I only remembered 4kids from childhood and had a negative impression as I went in. For me it's just the definitive adventure shonen series, it's a an amazing journey.

I don't like some of the directions the story has gone in nowadays and of course the anime nosedived underground years ago but the earlier years still ooze charm and the manga is always there.
>>
From this season alone, Osomatsu and Konosuba. Osomatsu because of the art style and Konosuba because someone said it was a harem but i watched them and they became the best shows Winter 2016 and Fall 2015 had to offer.

Just got back into watching Anime a little bit. I am in my early 30's so the last time I watched Anime was in late teens (so early 00's).

So far I have watched Kill la Kill and I thought it was pretty well done. I am currently watching Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, no idea, not usually my cup of tea and I can't relate to any of the characters but it seems well written and tugs a few emotional strings.

Not sure what else to watch. I am pretty overwhelmed since I have been out of the loop.
>>
>>139150531
This show was another one. I saw a video that showed more of the action scenes and it had my interest. Don't regret watching it at all.
>>
>>139162532
Try Gurren Lagann if you liked Kill la Kill.
In another thread one time, a bunch of older anons said that they all thought Samurai Flamenco was really fun too. I'd also personally recommend that as well.
>>
>>139162962

Gurren Lagann was also an entry show for me along with lucky star. Me and my brother had binge watched it during summer break.
>>
>>139163211

I might call Lucky Star one of my entry level shows even though I had seen several before it. Prior to that, everything I had seen was introduced to me either by Toonami or Adult Swim. Or some Mahou Shoujo anime my older sister was watching.

Did you binge watch lucky star with your brother, too?

Thanks Anon. Like I said I have been on a 10-12 year hiatus from watching Anime so I am sort of branching into all sorts of directions from straight action to the slice of life type stuff.

I stumbled on an Anime called Parasyte. I think I might give it a shot since that seems to be branching into more intense type material.
