It would have been better if KyoAni actually animated LN scenes that they teased about. In particular, Koito coming to live with Haru, with the scene that lead-up to that and the following scene after would better development that flowed naturally. Instead, KyoAni just rushed and botched up her progression, much like most of what they did to Phantom World adaptation in general.

It just feels way better than every episode until now.
Instead of doing their usual weak jokes and character interactions they use most of the episode's time letting the characters show their quirks through their acting (keyword).
I didn't expect the drama club qt to be a phantom, it really surprised me, and then we even solve her case right before the show begins, so we can focus on what the drama club wants to show instead of worrying about the phantom of the day, which could appear at anytime to ruin the fun and brings us back to the usual chuuni shenanigans.
You also have one whole layer of meta going over the episode, so if you ever think they did something poorly or rushed (like how quickly they found where she was hiding), the blame falls not over the show, but over the story written by the drama club president, effectively removing any small plot holes.
Then, to top all of this, there are incredibly choreographed fight scenes. These are easily better than any other done until now. Just look at the way how the bear protects the loli, how the ninjas rush at them, how they mercilessly fight against them, and even how the fairy dodges the sword cuts; it's all fucking genius.
I haven't watched episode 10 yet, but I seriously doubt Kyoani can outdo themselves.
This is the objectively the best Phantom World episode.

Episode 4, Reina's background, random phantoms aren't all malicious, shows the parental problems of her and Haru's too. Also Koito started to randomly gets closer to the group but doesn't want to openly admit it.

Episode 5, Koito's edginess explained, guess this is where she ends up with them too, because they then broke through her little wall of silence there. This is where they introduce her phantom sensing ability.

Ep 6, at first I thought this is just a boring filler ep, but lots happened here. Koito's finally in the group, also shows that she's literally a sweet girl, and that nice avengers assembled scene at the end. But it also shows more of that mind over matter stuff, because as shown later in the show lots of weird things can happen due to emotional influence, and the personal history of a person really influences what happens. Also shows that little loli kinda reads a lot too like Haru himself, she reads random fairytales and also knows about a real knight from the 12th century early on. Nice colors and visuals. I guess this episode sets the stage for the second half.

Ep 7, the cat one, it shows that phantoms don't just have a physical influence on the world, and they can also be influenced emotionally. Nice visuals too, and this also extends the stuff from previous episode, that mind over matter thing. Also shows that you don't need to beat the shit out of every phantom, it's nice to see that they intentionally show how the two rougher characters can't really get it down, so the two gentler girls are brought forward to settle the problem, mostly by Kurumi since previous episode shows that her mind's a bit more advanced. Also develops more on Koito's phantom sixth sense. Boy there was a lot of leg screenshots here, especially of Koito and Kurumi.

Ep 8, not really a random fanservice episode either, here it's finally shown that Haru has started to desire Mai, he wants her to be more than just his big sister. Also shows how awkward Koito is, but she's breaking from her shell even more now. She can't handle literal heat either. I think Kurumi's part, the one with the rake, is to show that these random mind over matter abilities can't be summoned voluntarily, they just pop up under great stress or depression, negative emotions. Episode also shows a lot of other student's random ability, and introduces those beach angels. Cthulu's first appearance, he's very useful going on. Too bad there's only one frame of cake swimsuit.

Ep 9, drama episode and that cutie phantom, as other episode confirms she's slowly made from the various negative emotions that were felt by the students, and this is also the episode where they explicitly show how phantom eyes are different from humans ie how to identify them, because Koito sure did. Once again not all phantoms are malicious. Got screentime from Clannadman and his harem too, and the visuals especially that fight scene was quite good.

Ep 10, Ruru's. Lots of random phantom variety here. Humanoid phantoms have that differently colored eye and spiral mark on their body. Shows the relationship between Ruru and Haru, seems like he gives her lots of shit but she doesn't mind at all and keeps close to him no matter what. Probably this would be explained by the final episode. Lots of real fun scenes here, and Koito finally stopped being constantly edgy. This and the eight episode shows that there are limits to Reina's and Kurumi's abilities, they also show these two quite close to each other, likewise to Mai and Koito too, like in the seventh episode.

Ep 11. A motherly one. Plenty developed here, from Haru abilities, where he can now summon stuff almost on demand, to the relationship between him and Mai. Guess they're really close now. This also continues the point of the sixth episode, and they even made a reference to it, because Mai figured out from Kurumi's incidence that the mind can influence reality a bit now, a theme that they've been subtly pursuing since the fourth episode probably, those rabbit parent phantoms easily influences Reina and Haru's troublesome parents mind, whereas Mai didn't have a shitty dad and weren't so easily swayed. Also paired Kurumi with Koito like in the drama episode.

Ep 12, finally they're tying everything together, lots of stuff happened, showing how the team finally has their shit together and are very competent now. There's the new antagonist, that introduction about how phantoms can come from as per that mind over matter theme, Haru's family problems, how every girl wants his dick, and how somehow that evil phantom aren't really malicious.
