I watched Exodus just earlier today. I didn't get much impact from death in that show since it often didn't stick.

And people say this but I can't think of any actual deaths that don't last.Not like any of the ghosts spoke but Canon, and that was probably the Mir talking half the time.

why didn't canon get a decent end
I really liked Fafner but the whole assimilation thing kind of lost its sense of danger when Kazuki (and to a lesser effect, everyone else) just kept de-crystallizing over and over again.
