I have never watched Sound! Euphonium, but from what I gathered when browsing the threads, I read that apparently, other characters exist in this show aside from Kumiko and Reina. Like, some kind of teacher.

Some of the backgrounds clashed, and although used sparingly, some of the CG looked tacky. The production values were a grade above most seasonal anime, but it felt substandard for KyoAni, at least in the animation department. Other than that, the amount of screen time and development the supporting cast got left more to be desired at times, as >>139099352 noted. They got good chunks of screen time, but they felt stagnant as characters/

Kumiko found her resolve to risk failure in service of improving herself. The plot was never the focus of the show, it's each character's arc and how all of them intersect.

I'd argue that there's plenty of drama in the series, it's just bubbling under the surface of the club rather than constantly popping off at each other. See: the whole second-year subplot and literally everything Aoi ever did.

I'll agree that they felt stagnant, but I also think that's the point. A character doesn't have to change who they are to develop. Character development is relative to what the audience knows about a character, not just the actions the character takes. We learned more about who Hazuki and Midori are over the course of the show by seeing how they dealt with their conflicts (or in Midori's case, how she helped others).
what if the plot is so shitty because its just an introduction to something that is going to be really long and great.

Apparently Kumiko is less tsundere for Shuuichi in the anime than in the novels. We all know they end up together, but I feel like Kyoani made it too subtle and it comes off as Kumiko really not giving too shits about him (despite actually being really bothered by what he said).
Also, Hazuki and Midori had a criminally small amount of screentime in the latter half.

Pretty much everything else, though I'm not a big fan of melodrama. I quite enjoyed the earlier episodes but it got pretty boring for me after the mountain climbing episode.

Hazuki got plenty of attention in the early episodes, she got the OVA dedicated to her, and most of the specials were about her learning more about music and the band. I blame Reina really for her relegation to side character in the second half, once she started getting more screentime Hazuki got next to none.
