His feelings are subconscious. And it only really seems to extend to women, with Rize, who happens to resemble his mother, being the prime example. When he meets her again, he flat-out says that he doesn't feel like he can hate her, even after she tried to murder him for shits and giggles. Whereas Tsukiyama had to do a lot to even earn Kaneki's trust.
His change in personality following his torture also makes more sense. He hasn't stopped being like his mother at all after that point like he claimed, he just became a different facet of her.

When Amon said "Shall we begin" is his kakugan active? It looks like it is, but at the same time it just looks like his hair is blocking his eye. If in the event that he is a half ghoul (which is highly likely since he presumably ate other ghouls), he doesn't have Kuzen's kakuho, since only Seidou was the only successful. But, if it is confirmed that he's the Floppy that was mentioned earlier, he probably mastered the kagune.
It's real tragic that he has to eat humans now. I feel like Ishida failed to elaborate on how fucked up it isis to be only able to eat humans. He almost grasped it in early TG, which is why it grabbed so many avid readers.
