At first glance you would think that they're a cute pair of brother and sister but if you look deeper, their relationship that came to be is rather cruel and unhealthy.
Taichi is overprotective of Hikari because he was guilt driven by the incident that nearly killed her. It was a careless mistake but with well meant intention. The final nail in the coffin that destroyed him was when she didn't resent her brother and even thought that she was at fault.
Meanwhile, all she sees is a caring older brother. What keeps Taichi sane in this regards is her not hating him, so she keeps being the good girl obliviously to all his pain.
But Tri seems to throw all these into the gutter.

Maybe because none of the movies so far has taken a focus on their relationship. At least we can see glimpses. Hikari is being less passive and now tries to get through his brother with his stupid dillema.
Plus, the writers and director picked it up and are aware according to the interviews, like the Christmas, Valentines spreads. They are the same ol' Taichi and Hikari in that sense.

Except that there are rumours flying around that they retcon/ignore the ending of 02. I mean fuck... 02 doesnt even seem to be wholly Canon in Tri. There's not a single remark about the events of Zero Two. Only glimpses we see that indicate it's existence are Takeru's D3 Digivice (I'm assuming Hikari has hers too, because Tailmon doesnt need to digivolve, yet anyway) and now Ken as the Digimon Emperor (Which makes NO sense in the context of Zero Two).
I mean I am somewhat indifferent to Zero Two... It was okay I guess. Better than Tamers, inferior to Adventure... And probably better than either Frontier, Savers or Xros Wars, I wouldnt know. Havent seen the latter three. But to almost completely omit it from Tri seems a bit odd, as 02 seem to have pretty wide support.
