Why are we reading Manga and watching Anime?
Are we admitting our westernized TV sitcoms and English literature are inferior to the Japanese light novels to the point we need to get it translated just to read it?
Art style is definitely one of the selling points for me, but it just recently dawned on me that we're going so far out of our way, to read in a different direction, translate, clean, and etc just to get our daily dose of entertainment.

I love western media, anime and manga just fill a niche they don't and are better as a more involved hobby. I watch western TV purely for the story, whereas I watch anime for the story, the art, the OST, the discussions on /a/, the husbando and shipping material (and the fanworks that come from them), etc. Manga is mostly the same, but is also a better alternative to the western equivalent thanks to the huge variety of series available.

In my personal view: american media feels really standardized, there are the good guys and the bad guys 9 out of 10 times, when theres a flashback there is a specific effect used, people talk in a very unnatural way(maybe thats really how americans talk I never knew one). In my country the films in the cinema, shows on tv are always hollywood, I'm just tired of it, especially when european media is usually a lot better, it just never gets through.
Anime is standardized too but I havent been exposed to it all my life, ill probably get tired of it eventually but I dont ever want to go back to american media

But seriously, anime probably does more experimental or unique shit because it's cheaper; think of a popular anime beyond super mainstream shonen, and imagine pitching it to American TV execs. At the very least Monogatari wouldn't make it, but among anime it sets sale records.
I like things from different cultures because they are different and not the same as the stuff as I already know but I also like those things I am already familiar with.

It's not inherently better; it's just that Japan outproduces us. Western animation is pretty much dead, and quality live action shows are rare because they cost so much more to produce. Western comics have held up all right, but there's still just so much more coming out of Japan. Sturgeon's law holds true across the world, and every year there are more good Japanese works to choose from.
The opposite is true for English novels and cinema.
Because it's entertaining and has better music.

I don't know. Do western comics get released weekly? The problem really is that most animated series are aimed towards kids or are based on superheroes. Plus you don't get that whole multiple authors with different pieces on western release... and if you do it's probably still all fucking superheroes. Variety is whats holding it back.

I'm not from an Anglophone country, so aside from knowing the language I have no reason to have any sort of attachment to English media. People, as they are portrayed on TV and whatnot, are ugly, whereas anime is at least much nicer to look at. Anime also often tackles events, characters, morals etc that are simply more appealing to me. It can be "objectively" inferior for all I care.
Because anime and manga are legitimate art forms and aren't relegated solely to kids and toilet humor.

I just don't care anymore. I've been fed so much faggotry and propaganda my whole life (despite some nice jewels like LOTR, Millenium, der Untergang, the Shawshank Redemption) and western TV series are quite full of shit and badly made and horrendously unfunny for the comedy ones that I simply stopped caring. We're currently facing the worst period of the western cinema with the fucking capeshit flood, I just can't stand this shit anymore. It's literally only good for the memes like the Civil War parody.
My country, France, produces so much drama/melodrama shit that it's absolutely impossible to know what to watch, and most of these drama follow the same formula. I feel like the last good show from my country was The Chorus or perhaps The Black Box/The Immortal (yes, I liked those two movies).
Anime and manga have more themes, different ways of showing things, there is a huge amount of artstyles, the OST are more varied and, I dare say, of better quality.
