That was a great moment, and really solidified Retsu's character for me. I think he was probably the most clearly defined character in terms of personality/morality besides Yuujiro.
So everybody, we should be just about done with 80, the script is finished aside from like 2 words of contention. Already typeset it, just waiting on dear translator-san to pull the trigger on those last 2 changes I wanna make. Most likely that's where we'll be leaving off for a few weeks, unfortunately, even though the 81 script is also about done. Spiny is going on break (he definitely needs one), I have food poisoning or something, and theonly is M.I.A. so we dunno when we'll have cleans for 81 anyway. While we're breaking, somebody should find a person or group wiling to do Baki Domoe. I think that'd be fun, would tide everyone over.

I got to the part where Yujirokills Baki's mother, the powerlevel shifts up (again), and Baki joins that super secret elite fighting club.
I got into this (anime) because I liked the general artistic design, and the concept of Yujiro's character.
But after 17 or so episodes, it all just started feeling increasingly dumb and repetitive. The action is also pretty stale, and the animation is nothing special. So I dropped it.
Does it get better, /a/? Should I pick it up again?
The art is actually pretty impressive. its not realistic but at some points im just like "holy fuck."

Yes, by far. Look, the "increasingly dumb and repetitive" bit of the anime is because it is an anime. To get to the second series, you can either just watch the second season like normal, or you can skip it and just miss the character introductions. Nothing essential happens in the Maximum Tournament arc (the 2nd anime season) besides the reveal of a secret of a certain tall guy who is also introduced in that arc. Anything you really need to understand the series is viscerally given in series 2, but it's *too* visceral for a lot people.

but i don't think realism was the goal, i think it's very influenced or similar to old japanese art like this to picture how godly the people in baki are, started to really appreciate the art after the oni symbolism hit through

QC guy here. I actually knew that the series existed for over a year before giving it a chance, because I thought the art would be closer to ONE's in quality or something. Obviously glad I gave it a chance, but I can understand why it would take a long time for anyone to come around.
