Back in the day, people estimated a CD could last 100 years before the data (stored on a filter above the plastic) would start to degrade. But some 30 years into it and CDs are already starting to degrade.
It also depends a lot on how good of quality the CD is. For those of us who were around for the early internet boom, we were downloading and burning everything on to CD-R/DVD-R. But those have already deteriorated in just the last 15 years.
It also has to do with climate and how media is stored. But a lot of CDs were stuffed into jewel cases or plastic sleeves. Which actually trap moisture and hasten the process of degradation.
In other words, you better back everything up on digital soon.

Daicon was pretty amazing in every regard. The throwback in Cassette Girl was nice but nothing would compare to an actual HD remaster.
