I have a proposal to reconcile the inevitable fact of many people switching between different characters they have feelings for before finding one to permanently settle on with the constancy and perpetuity that waifuism should embody. Certainly many of us had characters we had crushes on as children, and even into our adult years characters that we might have thought were "the one" until some character from a different series caught our eye. This youthful indecisiveness and experimentation is natural, and yet a waifu should be something that is eternal. For that purpose, I propose that characters one had a crush on or even felt deep feelings for before moving on to one's permanent waifu are not first or childhood waifus, but girlfriendfus, or GFfus if you will. For in real life one does not simply marry their first childhood crush or first serious adult relationship partner. Such a commitment is not bestowed until one, after many years of exploring potential partners, finally finds one that eclipses all the rest and separates them from the others with a ring and a vow to seal their deeper love. So, as a matter of nomenclature, I say we refer to these characters referenced in this thread for what they are, 2D girlfriends, as their similarity to real life girlfriends vis a vis wives is significant enough to merit this designation. To answer the topic of this thread, my first GFfu was a rather common childhood love among our sort, Misty from pokemon, who I now see as a rather less deeply characterized prototype to my beloved waifu, Asuka.
I kinda feel like a complete newfag with everyone else's girls from the 90s, but I think she was the first anime character I had any sort of deep feelings for.
