What makes Evangelion the greatest franchise of all time?
>>138982277
profound character development, superb animation and design, and complex story/mythos.
the fact that people won't stop talking about it all the time
The reason it will never not be talked about is because thirteen year kids will never stop being born, nor will they ever be unable to be 18YR OLD SENIORS and post here.
Eva is about as deep and enthralling is Elfen Lied.
>>138982318
It's like they nailed every fucking part of it. And the plot delivered like hell. I saw it on toonami for the first time a year or two ago, and the plot was what drew me in.
did you get weird dreams about it for like a fucking month after you first watched it?
>>138982464
Yeah, uh...get him out of here.
Dogs, sick him.
Demons, suck his soul out.
>>138982277
The characters
>>138982464
Like someone gives a fuck. Even the very same Elfen Lied is fun if you turn down your mind. It's more clever to search intelligent plots or whatever in other forms of media, not in Chinese cartoons, which are moefied and dedicated to fat fucks nowadays
>>138982277
Nothing.
>>138982277
>greatest franchise
>rebuild
"deep" shit aside, I always thought it was really well paced and had a good balance of action and character depth. In all departments, it nails it.
I could give a fuck if there's any religious symbols in there. Realistically speaking most of the deep shit is just there to look cool, and does it ever.

This, it's perfect, a 10/10.
And if you can actually associate with at least one of the characters on a personal level, it even exceeds 10/10.
>>138984411
well at least NGE/EoE is

Retards.
The best franchise? It's good because it's DEEP?
NGE can be as great it wants, but it's 2016 and we've got shit like dating sims, blatant otaku and fujo-pandering merchandise and Rebuild.
>>138986082
If you think NGE/EoE is deep, you haven't understood it
Back to square one
The Rebuilds don't exist

>reading comprehension
Back to first grade.
>>138986572
>It's good because it's DEEP?
No it's not good because it's deep, because it isn't deep
Back to /v/
>franchise
As a one single anime, NGE is pretty good, but franchise? Nope.
Any Gundam, Macross or even Pokémon is a more profitable franchise.
Rebuild sold well because Anno worked on it.
>>138986594
Try kindergarten.
Its' fans.
Honestly, a psychologist would have a blast with them. What leads them to argue in every single thread?
>>138982277
the symbols and the character developement
>>138986594
>>138986113
You must be genuinely retarded anon.
>>138986771
elaborate
Shinji Ikari
>>138986594
It's the deepest anime.
>>138986962
It's not deep at all
>>138982318
Yep.
>>138982277
For me, its the characters. Asuka, Rei and Shinji's turmoil and journey are expertly done and nothing quite like it in anime has been done since. To me, its more important then the mythos or big robots.
>>138982318
>superb animation
I don't think so. I love eva, but in terms of movement it's kind of lacking for the most part
>>138987519
The downtime can be a bit static but it's always framed well and the fights are absolutely top notch. The animation is quite good.
>>138987498
Yes this, this is what makes it so magical for me.
The sci-fi, psychologism, dementia, art, characters, deepness... it's one of my favorite and i am a sci-fi fan, i've seen hundreds of sci-fi movies.
Also, i hate mechas in anime but i loved these ones because they aren't realy. More like murdering beasts.
>>138982277
The idea that it might possibly be making it in an upcoming PS4 game that has it fighting Godzilla, Ultraman and others.
Whilst you are controlling a civilian trying to survive the Carnage.
>escapism is unhealthy
>stop watching anime and get your shit together
>oh shit son we made tons of shekels and people ask for more
>well fuck that "anime is bad" shit
>time to release movies and milk the franchise as much as possible
Truly amazing
>>138987992
The moral isn't that all escapism is bad. Its more that human contact isn't a bad thing, at least in the case of Shinji.
>>138988036
and in the case of the average otaku
>>138982277
I think it's great because I can relate to Shinji, Rei, and Gendo.
>>138988036
Being clueless and afraid when it comes to human interaction is often the reason of binging on anime to escape.
shinji has some sort of "I avoid everything that requires commitment" disorder and his weak bitch mind can only stand idleness. The only moments in the show where he is not about to break down and shit his pants are when he's lying in his bed. Anime is pretty much the epitome of a passive medium, doesn't require that much attention besides staring at the screen yet it gives the impression of doing something, a feeling of completion through the least effort possible. Ano himself was pretty deep into Sailor Moon autism (his place was literally filled with almost every single product from the show ) until he realized something was wrong with that
>>138988309
I still feel this was aimed more at Otaku's then anyone else. Same with how Asuka and Misato's problems were more generalizable to 90's Japan at the time. Some stuff does get lost in the western translation, I feel like the final product is less an attack on the medium then a 'there is more to life then this'.
Although its vague enough where you could get more then one interpretation from this, so.
>>138988407
I really hated Asuka and Misato. Asuka was just a bitch while Misato had a romance problem, not a people's problem like Shinji/Rei/Gendo.
>>138988696
You did at least not understand Misato then.
/a/ Said this this was good so Iwent ahead and watched the entire series in 2 days.
Pros- Nice opening theme, decent plot, I was erect watching the giants kill and eat one another.
Cons- MC is entirely too pathetic, too many scenes where the image sat still for 30 seconds for no real purpose, the last 2 episodes were torture to have to sit through (TERRIBLE ending) , and to top it no character had any depth at all.. almost no thought was put into a single one of them.
>>138989301
Being this dumb and uninformed. I am not going to explain everything to you and spoon feed you concepts because then you won't learn anything.
>>138989301
It's just a soapbox for the emotionally stunted. Laughably bad.
>>138989301
>you will never have this little understanding
Feels good man
The characters.
Evangelions is what it is because of the characters.
>>138989362
No need to explain. I wasted so much time reaching the final episodes I took the time to research what it was they were going for in the series.
Unfortunately I just found a lot of people posting theories. Theories and just speculations and opinions.. so it was useless..
I realized the show was just trying to tap into some psychological depth which honestly wasn't very impressive seeing how the rest of the series went.
>Feeling good about understanding a concept..
cool
>>138989529
You are so lost it is comical. Whatever do you.
>>138982277
Eva has such a lasting tail because of EoE. The pinnacle of all anime desu
>>138989559
Right..
Well I was here, I talked about the anime, and I was disappointed.
>My work here is done
>>138989673
Why do you think that the characters had no thought put into them? Even among those who have a relatively low opinion of Eva, people tend to think the characters are well built. Also keep in mind that your assessment of the characters is objectively untrue.
>>138989673
Yeah, I get your disappointment
>>138982277
It isn't, it's just that people can't stop arguing about how the title is pronounced.
