I read, I think on Wikipedia, that critics called it a Miyazaki imitation. Maybe in the sense that they go on a nonsensical adventure with a variety of locations. It executed that formula perfectly, though.

I still gotta watch it, I'm trying to catch up on all the recent movies I haven't seen yet. Lots of eh ones but I'm looking forward to watching this one. Sounds like a silly Galactic Railroad.

There are a surprising amount of movies that get by on being Ghibli-likes. I'm not saying it's intentional or anything, but Miyazaki was good enough to set a standard which people seem to drift towards. Movies like Giovanni's Island, Rainbow Fireflies or Mai Mai Miracle all emanate the same kinda worldview. I guess it's not a bad thing but it tends to wear on me, I find I'm liking fewer and fewer new movies these days.
