Yugioh was better when you didn't have to summon monsters and when catapulting your monsters into the castle of darkness was a legit strategy, as was using Mammoth Graveyard to somehow kill a Blue Eyes.

Way back in the day there used to be entire decks dedicated to Vayu + Skill Drain + Royal Oppression.
Basically the idea was to dump Blackwings into your grave quickly and synchro summon from the grave, while you Skill Drain and Oppression on the board.
Skill Drain negates all monster effects on the board, so you can use Vayu with no drawback.
Royal Oppression let any player pay 800 to negate a special summon, if you negate Vayu, Vayu and what you used stay in the grave instead of being banished, courtesy of there being a comma instead of a semicolon in front of the "and Special Summon 1 "Blackwing" Synchro Monster".
Basically this meant that you could shit out 2k+ monsters easily while shutting down any plays that let your opponent make something that can kill them.

Yeah, but that if you have no other outs, no one would use Solemn Judgment if the cost was always 4000 LP instead of half of your Life Points.

Judgment is as good as it is because you can always use it, it's never dead unlike Notice, Warning, that other Solemn where you can only have it set and no other cards.
