It probably would have come up at some point, though. Kuroneko cared very deeply about Kirino and couldn't stand to see her suffer like that, regardless of her own feelings for Kyousuke. Kirino knew how desperate Kuroneko was and exactly how much she loved Kyousuke. Both Kuroneko and Kirino knew how much Kyousuke loved both of them. It was a triangle where everybody cared very deeply about everybody and no result would have made any parties happy. It was an all around simultaneously amazing and shitty situation. Did Kuroneko do something stupid? Maybe, but she also felt it was her only option. Does that excuse or justify it? Probably not. But put yourself in her shoes and try to find a better solution. You have basically 4 friends in the whole world, you are extremely close with all of them, and you're in love with one of them (and he's in love with you, too), and his sister is arguably the closest of your other 3 friends. Can you really be in a romantic relationship with him? When he learns how much his sister, who he loves just as much, is suffering, could he continue the romantic relationship? At the very least, you'd probably both agree that you should pause until his sister - your best friend - is okay with it. She was the biggest idiot in the world for not telling the Kousaka siblings that she was transferring schools because she was moving a bit farther away but would still be close enough to meet up on the weekends, but other than that, there were no good options.
