To suit his context necessary to create righteous obstacles for Tekkadan and Kudelia.

He's objectively sponsoring and backing Tekkadan from behind the scenes to deliver Gjallarhorn a political blow to reform it from the inside out.

To do this he's using his two childhood friends as fuel for the fire.

She even challenged them to a duel 3v3, not to the death either, so no one else would have to die. If she won they'd give Kudelia and Makanai and fuck off back to Teiwaz, if they won they'd be allowed to pass and she'd stop chasing them.

Carta's achievements include chasing down a Mobile Worker with an unarmed passenger on top and ramming her huge ass sword into it. Where is that honour you speak of?
>>
>>138591576
It was the enemy commander. After they had been hailed with a warning before conflict even broke out.
>>
>>138592167
It was a battle situation and he was the enemy commander actively giving orders, which is how she spotted him in the first place. There was nothing dishonorable about it.

A duel is an entirely different situation and she went out of her mech as a sign of good faith towards the negotiation she was attempting.
>>
>>138592167
That MW is an armed weapon and could easily kill a person, also what she did was the correct choice attacking the enemy commander retarded enough to put itself in the open, you could said it was honor lest of Ein to attack the reporters shuffle back in the colony, but for Carta to attack the enemy commander in and armed vehicle is nothing out of question

Were they aiming from the beginning to make Tekkadan awkward to sympathize with?

It's not just Carta. I felt more even for Carta's subordinates than I can say I do for most of Tekkadan.
Was this their intention? For the Outer Earth Orbit Regulatory Joint Fleet to be more easily to sympathize with than Tekkadan itself?

They're child soldiers fighting a war for survival because they've never had any other option.

Of course they aren't going to play nice. Their actions shouldn't be making you feel bad when you consider things in context. When you realize Carta is just a clueless spoiled brat that literally can't understand why people wouldn't want to follow her rules, it's easy to not feel bad about her getting her shit slapped. She walked into a battle for survival and treated it like a game.

If you should feel bad for anyone, feel bad for Cartha's subordinates, that were forced to follow her ignorant, naive ass into battle and die pointlessly because she doesn't understand the difference between child's play and a war.

They're child soldiers fighting to overturn the order to usher chaos, in the hope of the possibility to create a in their eyes more righteous peace, that may or may not hold up even if they succeed. They are terrorists bringing literal war. And it's not just Kudelia. They're also harbouring Makanai who has been banished. Another individual that poses a danger to order and peace.

The basic argument is that the peace has to be broken for the lower classes to have a chance of improving their situation. But true or not there is no saying if Kudelia will even succeed and if they get their revolution innocent people will die no matter if they succeed or not. Kudelia may want to become hope but at the same time she is the cataclysm of chaos in story.

Carta and the regulatory joint fleet were charged with the purpose of protecting Earth's perimeter from invaders. Protecting the order. And here comes Tekkadan, literal terrorists bringing chaos of war. Good intentions or not they're trouble. Not even just for the upper classes, but the chaos they bring will surely pose a problem to many of the lower classes as well. It is chaos after all.
It could be said that they are in the way of change and that change needs to be had. How change is brought forth however is up to debate. What can really be said by the end of the day however is that Carta and the regulatory joint fleet were on the side of order, fighting to stop chaos, and to save lives. While Tekkadan are on a mission to overturn the order sparking chaos with their revolution. Just accepting casualties as collateral damage that can't be avoided.

There are arguments for and against both parties. But one side was fighting to protect while the other was fully aware of and accepting of there being casualties.

Tekkadan never wanted to "change the world".
They just wanted to make it big and they could have made it by just working normally after joining Teiwaz.
But no. They continue going on, making illogical decisions and when they bite them in the ass they shift the blame.
You can argue that real people do this too yet it appears there's not a single individual capable of introspect in their crew.
Fool me once shame on you.
Fool me twice shame on me.

From an outside perspective however, they are working for Kudelia and promoting her goals. And those are her goals. With that in mind any outsider would think of Tekkadan as an extension of Kudelia and thereby claim that Tekkadan are trying to bring forth a revolution.
Granted that Tekkadan as individuals fighting for revenge doesn't exactly make them any more sympathetic.

I think its pretty obvious that the revenge part is mostly because they are butthurt that people die in war. If they got non-combat jobs they wouldn't have to worry about that shit. Apparently the Great Economic Bloc Empire of Edmonton Alberta had a bunch of political thugs drive out the most popular political candidate in a Gjallarhorn-backed coup so they could fix an election USSR-style. Putting that candidate back in the running so that democracy can happen as it should is the exact opposite of fascism.

If you ever saw that film Dangerous Minds in the 90s about a white woman teacher who goes into the black schools and tries to 'reform' them its basically the same thing. post on /m/ earlier today cited Okada posting some brief messages on Twitter shortly after the episode aired confirming both Carta being dead after Gaelio spoke to her one last time pretending to be McGillis and that the meaning of the episode's title was based on the scene to which she says is one of her favorite scenes from working on the show.
>>
>>138595835
Tekkadan are fighting for the money and fame.
Kudelia is making them fight because hope or something, which means her having the power because she definitely knows how to run this shit and because she has to repay the ones who helped her and clearly she wouldn't be able to do so in a real democracy.

Don't believe the lies, the first thing that happens after Kudelia taking power is big powers eating the resources of the people.

>People honestly think that they are portraying Tekkadan's REVENGE! thing in a good light as the right thing to do.

Seriously, are people just getting confused because they played the theme song during it? They had thunder and lightning during the scene with Mika and Orga, the adults are freaked out over it, and even the black mechanic guy said that it's wrong.

It's wrong, but it's what Tekkadan needed to keep moving forward with the job. Their leader was crouched in a fetal position in his room, everyone was depressed, and Shino of all people was in command. SHINO! That's how bad things were.

The revenge thing is motivation to keep moving forward because as things stand they can't go back yet. They're on Gjallarhorns shit list and illegally in Earth territory with no ride ack into space. The whole scene with Mika and Orga in the last episode was to drive the point into Orga and remind him that he was the one who put them on this path that and that they literally can't stop now so he needs to take some damn responsibility and keep them moving.

It's wrong and fucked up but there's no other options left and that's the point.

It's the capital city of the largest oil-producing industry in Canada and one of the major sites of oil-sand business. It's a big deal to the Canadian economy, but Alberta's oil production is a drop in the water compared to the US, Russian, OPEC or literally any other major player in the market so it's not like that matters.

They probably just wanted a city that was real but irrelevant enough that nobody'd ever heard of it. Edmonton is the hipster's Chicago. Plus the population density in the prairies are so low that they can play around the whole "no magical drive systems in urban areas" thing without much issue.

Worth noting that most of the backgrounds from the past 2 episodes are tracings of famous canadian paintings. Maybe the director is an artfag and that influenced their decision.

>Merrybit's sudden reversal of attitude against fighting is really getting annoying now.

Seems to not be against fighting so much as the fact that they seem to be suicidal about it and dragging the young kids into it as well.

Not like the kids have any other future or choice though. They joined up with a mercenary group that was using kids as cannon fodder before the series even started and Mars is a shit hole without a crap job market.
