It had some hip hop in the OST but not just that sometimes it had a "hip hop feel" to the aesthetics and what not (though I'm not saying that it definitely did or that it was on purpose)

Hip hop-samurai version of Cowboy Bebop. I loved it, despite the music though.
OST aside Mugen's character alone is fucking great to watch.
It's a great show, I love the hip hop aesthetic and the characters were likable. Wasn't a big fan of the ending but still it's easily forgivable. My favourite Watanabe is Space Dandy though, with Cowboy Bebop close behind. Not necessarily a sci-fi fan, I just found those shows a little tighter. RIP Nujabes.

Bebop and Champloo are classics in their own right, but there's really nothing else like Dandy. Incredibly ambitious, one of the most highly concentrated collections of talent in the industry. Among the best produced TV series ever. It gets more shitposting I think mostly because of recency bias, but I can understand why some don't like it. Personally the fusion of unrestricted creativity with the show's Saturday morning cartoon-esque metastructure is insanely appealing. It tackles a crazy breadth of content extremely well but is never jarring because it's built ground-up to support it. I hope it's something people remember for years to come, honestly believe it's something special.

Not to say that dandy is bad in any way, I just enjoyed the episodic but with a plot thing the others had going more than the pure episodic of dandy.

The problem is Bebop is that thing I saw at the exact right age that went onto shape EVERYTHING that I like so it is hard for things to ever compare with that series.
It does effortless cool better than anything else.

Agreed, I have shows like that too. Definitely right about "cool" too; Watanabe is a master of style and Bebop is slick as fuck. Dripping with atmosphere. Like I said, I'm a Dandy guy but it can't touch Bebop in that regard.
I didn't really like Mugen, he felt like a more impulsive and hot-blooded, young version of Spike.
Other than that, top tier
Pretty good show. Good interactions, character development, awesome soundtrack. Wasn't very happy with how it ended though.

This is the best, like I've seen other stuff which tries blending cultures and ideas, but no one can do it as seamlessly as Watanabe. Is that Ed in the bottom right? I hadn't seen her original design before. I like the one we got, but of course that's the one I'm used to.
