So I don't want anime at all, but I just finished watching pic related (reason being childhood nostalgia) in two weeks and I thought it was so surprisingly great despite its childish exterior. The characters are so emotionally mature and intelligent (Yamato and Koushiro were my favorites), and the themes on bonds, family and friendship are really handled gracefully IMO. I cried watching the ending when they they were all saying goodbye to each other. I reckon all of this flew over my head when I was a kid watching it, but watching it as an adult really changed my outlook on the show.

I mean, point is, can /a/nons recommend me similar shows on friendships and dealing with emotions?

If you're still in a kid's show mindset, I guess Precure and Ojamajo Doremi. Not all Precures are alike so you'll have to research them yourself.

I want to recommend Princess Tutu but it doesn't exactly fit what you're asking for. It's a "kid's show" that gets really dark, but it's not really about friendship.
