Many studios can adapt character designs correctly but Kyoani can't.

But personally, I rather like their visual style and character designs.
So even if they change them, most of the time it's for the better.

Kyoani animators are raised from a young age to only be able to draw and animate in specific ways. It's all inhouse and specialised.
Kyoani fixes character designs instead of adapting them.
What do you mean "correctly"?
They did good jobs keeping things suitably matching very different series (clannad, haruhi, lucky star, fmp) up until K-on, after which somehow everything they made since then besides Nichijou looks either slightly or hugely K-on tinged in influence.

They're really no worse in that regard than most studios. Dagashi Kashi looks as much like the manga as Phantom World does the light novel for example.
