Looks like Ergo Proxy to me. Could just be an Evanescence album though.

A 'try hard' bullshit.

This desu.

It's hilarious how try hard pretentious Ergo Proxy is.

It's literally no deeper than your average Saturday morning cartoon.

I don't know much about philosophy, is raison d'être some quote by some famous guy?
>>
>wtf
>>>/r/anime
>>
>>138134413
It was said by Adolf Sebastian Moot. It's indedd a famous quote from Srí Lanka and it means "Boku no Pico is a masterpiece".
>>
>>138134413
It means reason for being, people trying to find their reason for being in society Ergo establishes is a big theme in the show, but for some reason they decided to say raison d'etre every single time instead of being more subtle.
>>
>>138134829
I got that, french is pretty similar to my language so I understood the meaning quick.
I just thought it was some relevant quote by a famous philosopher to justify them saying it every single episode.
If they just did it because it sounds cool it's kinda embarassing, but I guess nips have a boner for European languages.

DARKNESS

I liked Ergo Proxy personally despite it unraveling hard at the end and sucking at any message, the three main characters and atmosphere was good enough for me. The dub was also surprisingly serviceable.
>>
>>138135126
I thought the dub was better suited to the characters. Ending still sucked and made little sense. Great atmosphere and style though.

>unraveling hard at the end
I honestly like the first 3 episodes best. Everyone's story, to me, seemed at its most interesting then after Escape from New York my opinion didn't get any higher.

>sucking at any message
It's been years since I watched but the only "message" I sort of remember was that one amusement park episode or something. I don't know what the message was, but I remember there being an effort.

I would re-watch just to get a proper refresher of everything that happened, but at the same time I never remembered it as really good. Iggy's dub voice threw me off when I first heard it since I expected something gruff and deep based from his design. Then I thought it was pretty cute since I love giant man/ small, cute woman combos.

Lain came first though.
>>
>>138135240
I watched the sub and the dub and feel the same way. There were a couple times in the dub where a random dude's voice would sound way off, but other than that it felt more in tune with the atmosphere and characters.

>>138135315
The general message that I think they tried to convey was finding your reason for existence in a world that doesn't really care about you, hence the repeated screeching of "raisons de eateries" over and over. I might have misinterpreted, but that's the overall theme I think they were going for. Who knows though since the story fell apart so hard, maybe I totally missed the mark.

>Then I thought it was pretty cute since I love giant man/ small, cute woman combos.

My brother.
>>
I just wanted to say I love the episode where they get stuck and start to go stir crazy.
>>
>>138135342
Yes, but Lain is a great, cultured watch, while Ergo Proxy is not.

Rustle makes some amazing art. It's a shame he's losing his sight.
>>
>>138135660
>>138136081
Not him but Lain is overall better because it doesn't drag as long and as a result, the message is conveyed better.

Your own dick sucking itself
>>
>>138130647
In this case it's apt. It tried to be a lot deeper than it actually was, it's been ages since I finished the show so my memories might be a bit exaggerated though.

Generally, I'm sick of something like Madoka Magica: Rebellion being called pretentious when all it really is is artsy. It's not deep, but it never claimed to be, so is therefore not pretentious. Ergo Proxy on the other hand does try to give off that impression but fails, and could thus be called pretentious.

That's my thinking anyways.
>>
>>138136226
It's better, yeah, but it still comes off as trying way too hard, and it definitely isn't "cultured".
>>
You watched the most wannabe seinen anime on the market and one of the only shows I've dropped 20+ episodes in.
>>
>>138136397
>but it still comes off as trying way too hard
It doesn't though.
>and it definitely isn't "cultured".
I don't know what he meant by this but yeah it probably isn't.
