I like those kind of grids, but I have zero knowledge of aesthetics. I don't think picking what I think looks nice is good enough.

I try to keep the colors balanced when I make grids and use non similar looking shots, although if there are similar shots, keep them far away from each other for a better balance.

If you're watching a thing and there's a shot that makes you think "hey that's pretty neat" just screenshot, and then you can stitch your favourites up later. I just do it chronologically.

I think guys need to watch more anime, or something because Hyouka's direction was average at best.

The problem with a well directed show is that well directed shows are actually hard to spot unless you go into watching the show with the intention of paying attention to the actual directing.
I personally don't believe that a show is well directed if I on my first watch think to myself "man I think this is very well directed". An actually well directed show should be so well executed that it immerses me completely, I shouldn't catch myself thinking about the technical side of it.
