I don't really consider the LoGH to be '' highly complex''. It have a good plot, but its not really complex.
>>
What makes a plot complex? Length? Number of characters?
>>
>>137242619
Because it is made from a novel. Anime adapted from novels tend to be good. Look at SSY.

>>137243009
Looks surprisingly good, maybe because it is colored and Reinhard is older.

It is, the remake is happening.

>Why aren't shows with highly complex plots like LoGH being made anymore?

Jesus, put the anime and manga down and read a fucking book if you want a decent story.
>>
>>137243316
There's a remake coming? I bet it's gonna suck.
>>
>>137243377
Fujo please.
>>
>>137243420
Books are grossly overrated. The ratio of good/bad books are about the same as with anime. They've just been around longer so they have a larger pool of great works.
>>
>>137242619

Cause the anime fanbase is fucking rock stupid now and their brains turned to mush and petty or irrelevant bullshit by years of shitty romance and waifu/husbando anime being the main draw in the medium such that they'd be incapable of appreciating something like it. They'd complain that it's too confusing and doesn't make any sense the second it started focusing on politics and morality and shit like that that the average anime fan just can't seem to comprehend anymore. People would just get so hung up on stupid shit like Reinhard and Kierchies' bromance being kind of ambiguously gay (OMG teh Fujoshi pandering!!!!11!!) or shipping Reinhard with his sister versus Hilde and Yang with Jessica versus Frederica that they'd just end up confused and pissed off when the show didn't focus on those relationships and instead on more important matters of galatic stability....as in like 95% percent of the time.

It's true and people fucking know it, which is why the remake is pretty much going to flop or be forced to focus more on romance aspects, love triangles, domestic shit and "ACTUAL" fujo baiting in order to have a prayer of hacking it in the 2010's.
>>
>>137243428
There's a remake, a new manga, and an official English release coming.
>>
>>137243483
He does have a point that there are a lot more complex plots in books than anime. Mainly because they're usually longer overall and don't come in tiny segments.
>>
>>137243271
He seems to be a child in the manga, so I'm guessing he's 19 (he was 19 at the beginning of the anime) in that cover.
>>
>>137243483
Except the best books have 1000x more worth than anime, regardless of what some 20 year old says on some anonymous website.

>LoGH should get awesome treatment like Gundam Origin
>like Gundam Origin
If you want samefaces everywhere and questionable changes to the plot, then yes. LOGH already has one of those ticked, so why even bother?
>>
>>137243683
Why is it so hard for anime fans to admit other mediums are more developed, more mature and have accomplished far more? Show me a website specifically designed for academic anime criticism with the worth of any highbrow literary criticism blog. It ain't high art son.
>>
>>137242619
Because LoGH was a one-off adaptation of a long-running series of SF novels.
>>
>>137244206
The thing is anime is made to sell disks, and a lot of people work on them.

Manga is more close to books, as they are the work of a single author and they often have more freedom on what they can do.

But, at the end of the day they Anime/Manga and Books are different mediums.
>>
>>137244206
You had bait potential but I think you're trying a bit too hard with your academic criticism line.
>>
>>137244325
The idea that animation is a purely collaborative medium is a meme. Go research more.
>>
>>137244206
The quality of criticism doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the medium itself. People were writing incredible works of literature long before any decent critics were around.
>>
>>137242619
>LOGH
>highly complex

I'm only 11 episodes into it, but so far it just looks like a simple, albeit unbiased, liberatarianism vs. totalitarianism story.

Does the show get any deeper than that?
>>
>>137243072
It's good to know what your opinion of it is. That was a very insightful comment with good use of examples to back up the points.
>>

It by and large is, and the productions people talk about almost always are.

Fuck off.
>>
>>137243575
Said the 20 year old on an anonymous website.
>>
>>137244418
I think we're talking about commercial productions, which are largely collaborative. Not like, independent stuff. When people think "anime" they think K-On! and Evangelion not Yamamura or whoever.
>>
>>137244600
not really, but that doesn't mean LoGH isn't a masterpiece

YST and Hyouka, as well.

However, LoGH had illustrations so it would be called a light novel now.

If someone implies anime is much worse than other forms of entertainment, he clearly shouldn't be on a board for people really into anime.
>>
>>137245568
And you're implying that many of the best books are the some of "humanity's greatest achievements" by virtue of them being books?

Here's a news flash for you: the whole "literature is objectively the best artistic medium" narrative is a meme created by authority figures to encourage illiterate children to read.

There is no such thing as a superior artistic medium, because every medium has it's own strengths and weaknesses. This means that a high quality anime has just as much value as a high quality book.
>>
>>137244206

I have no fucking problem admitting it after having spent the better part of the last year watching Netflix series or series on Netflix instead of mostly anime. The level of difference between even the weakest one I've tried (not Gotham, that's just dreadful as any bad anime) and the average anime is just embarrassing. Like Netflix drama x like I don't know, Marco Polo or Jessica Jones just blows the average anime out of the water in every metric possible from characters to drama to relevant comedy, to maturity, to not insulting the audiences intelligence, to quality control, acting ,writing, everything.

It's seriously made me question why I even bother with anime much anymore when I have the choice of watching some random 12 x 24 episode show that'll probably just end up a clusterfuck versus 10-12 1 hour installments of shows on Netflix that will probably be good to great on average.

It's not even fair comparing Netflix series versus the average tripe I could pull up on Crunchyroll right now, and I can only hope once Netflix really starts stepping in heavy to production committees that Japan damn well listens to their insights and it improves the quality of anime even somewhat in terms of accessibility to newer audiences and especially the overall structure of your average show. There's plenty of potential in Japanese animation still, just not with the idiots currently calling the shots in the industry and the sorts of idiots in a niche who have an inflated sense of self importance and intelligence that it currently feels it has to cater too exclusively. I mean niche anime fans seem to think they are the smartest most all knowing and special people on the planet but I can assure them they're definitely not and any company that insists they are are really just flatterers and patronizers that want their money.

>>137245989
If you compare "all tv anime" to "all american live action tv" I'd argue anime is in much better shape, artistically.

>>137245989
How are you aniplex-kun? Are you still mad that people like BokuDake?
>>
>>137245989
But what about the average Sunrise show? Don't you think that's better than Netflix?
>>
>>137246682
No man, all mediums are artistically equal. The difference in quality you perceive is just an illusion constructed by your personal bias.
>>
>>137246787
I agree, I didn't say animation was a better art form than live action cinema though.

This wholeheartedly, Jessica Jones has a strong female lead, sex, cool mental illnesses, interracial sex, and a gay rapist villain. No anime even compares, it's embarrassing.

That's all it is (although many would argue that it's not unbiased as it progresses, you can decide for yourself when you get further in). If it's considered a "masterpiece" then it has nothing to do with complexity, because the anime is not complex at all.

Biggest factor for all the hype it gets is simply that it's now too old for anyone to bother scrutinising, seriously.
>>
>>137248074
Because it's a hundred episodes long and they're incompetent. I don't know why anyone would care about a Sentai release in the first place.
