it was a good episode, but I do agree that it felt kind of strange when compared to the other episodes

It has suspense, horror and a feeling of dread and isolation.

All the bad stuff is eventually cleared up with a lighthearted, soothing but still somewhat uncertain ending.

The whole joke is never the punchline, anon.

I understand that, but it felt like a let-down in some aspects. You're gearing up for something truly bizarre/monstrous, and it's just the fridge. I can appreciate the suspense and such on its own, but I can't quite appreciate it within the context of the episode's entirety. You understand what I mean?

>>
its one of the few things I remember about the series after having watched it only once

the abandoned carnival in space or whatever set the tone of the whole show, this was not a story that took place entirely in the normal real world

in fact I thought that was a major aspect of the narrative, the idea that a person can make decisions that permanently cut them off from normalacy, and that is inherently sad

I think Spike's JP voice works. It's a completely different type of voice from Blum but both fit the character really well.
>>
Cowboy Bebop is one of those extremely rare shows where I think both the Japanese and English voices are amazing, but for entirely different reasons.
>>
>>136134859
I honestly prefer the sub over the dub, but I have Japanese parents so I'm biased.
>>
>>136139034
This, a rare occurrence where both Japanese and English voices are good.
>>
>>136139144

It's because they each brought something different.

The Japanese audio was all big names, people who were at the top of their game and we got the result of that.

The English audio, at the time it was dubbed, was filled with a bunch of nobodies. But the voice direction was so good that it got great performances out of all of them.

>>
Remember when Cowboy Bebop was fresh and hadn't been completely run into the ground by Cartoon Network?
>>
>>136139696

It's the reason Outlaw Star is more fondly remembered in some ways. It was rerun like maybe twice and then they let it go.

Also it helps that it was just a nice space adventure story
>>
>>136139696
Its as fresh as your approach to it man.

>>136139797

>>
>>136125997
The purpose of the series was to go through a variety of cinematic tones and influences, which differ in each episode. Some reference noir, some reference Hollywood, some referenced Hong-kong action, some did classic westerns and french films, and/or sci-fi.

Then there's the ones that did a mix of these things.

Seriously? Because that was one of the most memorable, to me. It had an interesting villain, a couple of good procedural twists, and the final shot of Spike putting the last bullet into him with the African drums in the background was amazing.

Maybe some people don't like blues
>>
I always find Jupiter Jazz to be pretty boring on rewatches, but I feel it had some some great moments between the two parts. I forget the episode name, but the one with the junk yard owners who fix up one of our modern shuttles is usually the one I least look forward to.

Boogie-Woogie Feng-Shui and Stray Dog Strut are the two lowest rated episodes on IMDB.

Pierrot le Fou is the third highest rated episode, only below The Real Folk Blues: Part 2 and Ballad of Fallen Angels.
>>
>>136141607
That's a shame. Stray Dog Strut wasn't really exceptional or anything (by far one of the least "artsy" episodes), but Want It All Back is one of my favorite Bebop tracks and Ein was cute.

I still like Boogie Boogie Feng Shui, but opinions are opinions
>>
Meh. This episode was pretty average looking back at it.

The episodes that actually deal with Spike coming to confrontation with his past always felt like a completely different show.

>>
Is it just the number of times I've watched it getting to me, or is Asteroid Blues a little weird? Like some of the dialogue is a bit odd, and there's that shot of the girl at the end where it just zooms in on her unmoving face and it goes on a little too long, it just seems strangely directed at a few points.
>>
>>136145365
How was it foreshadowed? I don't recall.
>>
>>136145462
It was used later on, if that counts.

>>136145319
I like how despite the overall seriousness of the episode, Ein just inconspicuously did his data dog thing. It implies that Ein isn't a joke-- he really is a magic mathematically inclined corgi.
>>
>>136145462
>cat in Pierrot's testing facility has glass eye
>seeing or hearing anything similar to that cat triggers him, like when the cat toy goes off and he unloads lead into it while freaking out
>the final standoff between him and Spike has a ton of lights with the parade coming, and the two of them staring right into each others eyes
>one of the lights glints off of Spike's glass eye and freaks Pierrot out, causing the opening that leads to his death
All of it visual, not a single word spoken about either the cat or Spike having a glass eye. Really impressive visual storytelling, something most anime are still really bad at.

As glad as I am that Dandy wasn't Bebop, I wouldn't have minded a few Bebop episodes. I don't know if it would work (because none of the characters are really "cool,") but it would have been nice to see more Bebop in a different series.

So what?
I bet you're the kind of person who dislikes the Patlabor movies because they are not like the TV series.
>>
What are the best blu rays for this? Japan or Funimation?
>>
My sister got me the series and movie blu rays for christmas and my dad ended up watching them with me. He actually liked it and got hooked so it was fun to see a 61 year old man enjoying an anime.

Most people dislike the Patlabor movies because they're slow and plodding.

I hope those weren't Funi Blu-Rays. Those were awful.

>the worst one if Jupiter Jazz.
Is that a serious opinion? I'm finding it hard to believe, to be honest. Call me biased but I think part 1 and 2 of Jupiter Jazz was one of the best stories in the series. A good excuse to post this gorgeous song, though.

The music was good as always but I can't stand Vicious. Not saying it was bad, but it's the one I liked the least.
