KyoAni shows are like wine - become better with time.
Was true for Hyouka, is true for KnK. Did not like watching it when it aired, but liked rewatching lter, enjoying all the refined production, characters and details aspects. The story was still disappointing and did not really hook up - but the quality and details was still great. The OP alone, of Mirai riding to the town - in context of prequel OAV, main story and show finale is a masterpiece.

The animation was pretty great, I wish kyoani did more action scenes.
It looked better than Hyouka so we can finally stop putting Hyouka on a pedestal and have to seriously consider the story.

Nah. Hyouka` perfect look is not just fancy animation but overall perfect style, direction, character design and aestetics.
KnK had more fancy, but certainly not better. Hibike loses to Hyouka as well.

Like others have mentioned, the plot was kind of a let down but the character design and interactions were also perfect, and made up for the bad parts.
