The main problem with digital distribution, especially in the west, is the lack of good channel to do it. Fucking no one uses DLsite English so putting your works there won't generate any revenue and that's about it as far as digital doujin distribution goes.
DMM.com has been trying to get foreigners out and channel them to their English parter, r18.com, but that site has no doujins and abysmal catalog all around. It's mostly a JAV site.

No, the issue is that everything is in Japanese and the western market is used to awful fan-translations as their primary source for all media.
There's no market in the west, because translating all of the content on DLsite would take a team of dozens, years.
You wouldn't even make back the investment with most content. Short doujins, maybe, but CG sets and games? You'd have to be insane to waste the money on a translator as a Japanese creator.

That's actually not true, digital doujins are starting to be quite good these days. Melonbook stuff comes at a standard x2000 resolution.
The real problem is the old idiots at the charge of publishing companies who put out the magazines/tanks at x1500 resolution even after delaying them a month or more from street date. I think they're afraid it'll hurt physical sales but if you're delaying the digital release then at least give us proper resolution.

Loe Quality is working on Junketsu Megami apparently. His translation actually hooks out well with VNR last I recall. It's a nice work around to the text issue the engine of the game runs on.

Ok, so I am scanning a doujinshi at this moment.
1. In general, it takes me a few hours to scan ~60 pages of content in 1200 DPI, and the covers at 2400 DPI which is saved as a TIFF.
2. It takes me anywhere from an hour to four hours do the minimal editing in photshop:

>Fix pages/blemishes
>Correct color/BW levels
The output is saved in the same format.
3. It takes ~30 minutes to set up the proper conversion for the final product. I usually use PNG for the internal images at 300-600 DPI and JPG for the covers at 1200 DPI. The resolution is determined by the highest settings which allow me 10MB, and for BW/grayscale works I simplify the colors for more efficient encoding. I use IrFanView for this step.
3. I have 40kb/s upload, so it takes me a few hours to upload everything to my VPS, where I then upload it to Sad Panda. After 10 min of editing/information, I usually make the gallery public. I assume the mods look at the content and get the OK, as there is a noticeable lag-time between posting and the gallery appearing in searches.

I'd rather have batch tags that count as 1 for tag limit. There are tags that are hard to define (like "vanilla", but easy to filter out complementary sets if there are tags that would exclude batch one. We have tag flagging perk, why not dedicate one set to it, be able to customize its name, and have "personalized" tag?
