No, when I was a kid, I saw an episode of Sailor Moon and had no clue what was going on, and I saw an episode of DBZ and had no clue what was going on, so naturally, I didn't bother with them.

The US seems to have treated it strangely. Down under, they aired it on every morning before school cartoon block and everyone and their mum saw episodes of itor at least the ones they showed, they even cut out more episodes, so nobody even knew what happened to Nephrite
