Currently reading Ping-Pong: The Animation: The Manga and holy shit did Ping-Pong do it right.

>Moves scenes like Butterfly Jo's backstory to fit better.

No anon. They still call him a cyborg and all that but the wholebreaking out of this shell with the help of Smille gettin gudis gone. It really hurts the manga. One notable part is where kid Peco is cheering for adult Smile. That entire part in the manga is during the match against Butterfly Jo instead of towards the endagainst Smile.After watching the anime in makes that scene feel wasted in the manga.

Oh god no. Unless you're of the opinion of "wacky comedy" and bland anime-only characters are an improvement. I highly doubt people who prefer the anime to the manga have read the manga. Think of your favorite scenes in the Planetes anime, and now think of how many of them are panel for panel adaptations of the manga. When the anime actually adapted the manga source it was great. When it went off on its own into "look at our silly lottery dance" and "space ninjas are fun" it just fucking fell to pieces.
