In berserks case its not really the textures heck in most anime CGI, What it has in common with all the other shitty CGI shows is the Shaders, they are generic toon shaders based on what ive seen.

There's using good 3D animation and blending it with 2D animation, there's bad 3D animation, and there's bad 2D animation, and there's good 3D animation.

But I've yet to see ANY Japanese studio (Production I.G, WIT, etc) animate, shade, and color ALL in 3D and have it look good.
