This was deliberately made in such a way that you'd be angry at this happening. The manga is told from Kurosawa's perspective and everything you see has his own feelings put into it. Why the fuck do you think he takes it so hard and there's a whole page dedicated to it?
While in retrospect you may be able to say that Magister was right, the viewpoint in the manga is subjective and you are not meant to view it objectively.
